So my CSA VZ58 is on its way back from warranty repair and while it was gone I got thinking about bayonets. I recently built a 2x72 grinder and have been looking for some projects to try.

1) will a surplus CZ 858 bayonet fit the CSA VZ58 rifles?

2) is lockup nice and tight? cross pattern or in general.

3) has anyone ever done a restoration on these bayonets? blade finish, new handles, etc?

4) where is the cheapest place to pickup these bayonets? condition doesn't matte much so long as the lockup is tight and the blade isn't chipped to pieces.

My goal is to refinish the blade, add micarta handles, and make a kydex molle compatible sheath. My hope is to make the bayonet into a usable field knife and as a last resort a more effective bayonet.

If anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction I will be grateful

Thanks

Geoffrey

Geoffrey,
The surplus bayonet will fit the CSA. The design will limit what you can do as far as upgrades. it's a dull poker, as it should be for its original use. I think the blade is a steel casting, no idea as to how it'll hold an edge. The handle is too skinny, blade too long, width too narrow to make a good all round knife. Get one in your hand and you'll know what I mean.
Czech this out, they already designed what your trying to achieve.

Good field knife and bayonet combo. If you try to replicate this, you'll need to remove a lot of material in the guard area for the sprung retaining pin. Could be a weak area.
Another option is the AR bayonet adapter, you could make or alter whatever you want as long as it had a ringed cross guard.
Show us how you make out. Any grinder pics?

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm actually thinking that the original bayonet would be used as a template for a CNC machined bayonet.

Machining a bayonet out of a block of tool steel just increased the complexity of the project. I'm curious how the lock works on the original.

I have seen the special forces version, just too expensive for my tastes. And still isn't really what I'm after.

I will keep you guys posted.

Adaptor needs Muzzle Brake with 22mm diameter (All our brakes are 22mm with exception of AK Style Slant Brake and Czech Army Cone Brake) AK Slant Brake will also work however bayonet will be more loosely fit
