Hello, all.

I'm interested in knowing whether it's possible to rebarrel my CZ 858 with a non-restricted length Chrome-Lined barrel. I originally bought a restricted because of the chrome line when shooting surplus and MFS and the like, but I'd be interested in de-restricting it, if replacing the barrel with a longer one is possible.

I'd prefer to do this if it's cheaper than buying a new CSA or a VZ sporter.

If anyone has any information I'd be much appreciated.

I got quoted a few hundred from wolfgang @ wolverine. That was a couple years ago. You'd probably would have to supply the chrome lined barrel though, I think the quote was for a normal barrel.

dont know the cost but the cz barrel is press fit in the receiver , and may require a special setup to press it out , buying a new rifle it probably the cheapest solution and the easy one

I don't know about cheapest, but definitely easiest. Anyone have a source for new barrels?

Have shot nearly 2 1200rd crates of corrosive surplus through my 858 non restricted, it's non chrome lined, no problems, looks just the same as the day I bought it. Just clean it after you use it, don't be lazy.

Uhm, cleaning the rifle has nothing to do with this topic. The point of this thread was finding another barrel to change a RESTRICTED rifle, to a NON-RESTRICTED rifle.

...yeah.

First off, once a rifle is classified as restricted, you can't change it to non restricted status. This goes back to the issue of rifles that have quick changeable barrels, once you put a shorter barrel on you have maybe a day to register it as restricted with the RCMP and once you do, it's restricted forever. Second, what I meant by my first response was, why bother with a chrome lined barrel at all, to the op, sell your restricted cz, buy a non restricted cz 858, you can use it anywhere, and it's more accurate not being chrome lined, don't be lazy and clean it after you use it. Not only will it last practically forever but it will remain very reliable because you clean it so often.

My bad, just dug up an old post on the brs99, it's 30 days to register status change and you can change back. But my advice on the selling of the restricted rifle and getting the non chrome line stands. Bottom line is you can use it out in the bush and its more accurate with a longer barrel that's non chrome lined.
