I hadn't quite decided that I wanted to spend money an a brand new 22mag, so I missed out a couple months ago when Jo-Brook and Prairie Gun Traders had stock and were selling them for $569.95 or less. Then missed out on a couple at Ontario dealers for $595 and $619.

So now having decided, looks like I waited too long, or almost. I drove over an hour to find out a dealer mistakenly had a 22lr instead of 22mag listed in their inventory. Out of luck again.

Now I've found a dealer that says he can get one for me from a distributor, but the price will be $649.00 due to the the dollar. It's likely one of the last new ones that will ever be available.

Other options might be a Browning T-bolt, or Ruger 77/22 at even more money. Not too interested in the Savages. Have looked at Marlin, but everything I read leads me back to CZ for overall quality and value.

I know the 455 is available, and cheaper. I really prefer the 452 tapered barrel, as well as others preferences seem to be for the 452 over the 455.

So, I guess my question is, is the 452 still worth $650 plus taxes?

Is it worth it? Personally...I'm a huge 452 fan and a person who dreads the idea of regret. (of any kind) If you regret buying one at $619 and found one for $31 more...I'd say go for it. Sounds like you're a person who'll have the gun long after the sting of the price tag has passed. Besides...good shooter or not~do you want to buy a Marlin 22WMR and wish it was a CZ every time you look at it? :) (That's coming from a guy with 3 Marlins) I've also found that dealers who may not move on the ticket price are sometimes willing to help-out in other ways. Deal on a spare mag, ammo, scope rings...that sort of thing.

Good luck with your decision~I'm sure you'll love your new CZ.

Mine is only in .22lr, but its totally a great firearm. I'd get one in .22wmr if I had a need for that caliber. I don't hunt and the cheaper ammo still pokes holes in paper and clangs nicely off steel.

I would get the 452 while it is still available. 455s are very good too but both of mine required pillars and glass bedding to shoot under MOA at 50 yd.

I prefer the 452 design because it is one of very few rimfires (magnum or standard) that employ a threaded barrel shank to receiver joint .. like most "big boy" rifles. The 455 does not etc ... how important this is ... I honestly dont know .. the justly famed model 54 Anschutz action is NOT threaded (nor is virtually every other rimfire) ... and it performs pretty good (an understatement!!) ...the Steyr SSG 69 is not threaded either ... and it is pretty fair (and accurate) "big boy" rifle too. Regardless - that fact alone (and the hammer forged barrels) was enough to push me to purchase a 452 Varmint .22 magnum (ANIB) a while ago .. I jumped on it when it came up. They "may" not be making any more of these and I wanted one... just because. The only other .22WMR I wanted was a Marlin 783 .. and I found a mint one of those too.
