CZ452 Varmint Action Screw

I haven't seen a 457 first hand, but the reports are that several different models are factory pillared. I would surmise that all have pillars. The action screws are located in front of the magazine well and behind the trigger.
Thanks for that pic. Looks like it could use a good bedding.
Yup.
The action diameter and thickness are the same between the 452 and the 455 except that the 452 action has a deep horizontal slot milled into the bottom of the rear tang in order to accommodate the 452 bolt, making the area about 3 mm thinner than what you get on the 455. This is why they get enough "meat" in the 455 tang for the 455 rear action screw but not enough on the 452. If you Google images for "CZ 452 and CZ 455 action differences" you will notice the change in tang thicknes between both models where the rear action screw is/would be located.

Not saying the barrel lug and the CZ 452 Varmint won't shoot as is, but I'm the type to make a better mousetrap. Had everything all snugged up in the factory original stock unmodified and with a bit of pressure can move the whole barreled action a little inside it. That part of it has to be improved for more consistency. I'll look at using the existing barrel lug or maybe mill a dovetail there like the American version. Not sure if it needs that though as I don't know if the tang really needs a lot of torque .

The factory 'pillars' is a bit of a stretch. What they did was bore holes into the stock and fill them with what looks to be Devcon. On my 16" MTR you can see the epoxy broke out on either side of the front screw leaving only contact on that 2mm wide strip you can see at the very bottom of your picture. I'm going to redo this properly at some point, but right now my MTR is shooting great.

My understanding is that epoxying pillars in a rimfire stock was not uncommon. Perhaps that's a misapprehension.

In any case, here are some other images taken from RFC of the pillars in a CZ 457 stock as they come from the factory.

Nothing wrong with giving it a try. If the rear action screw doesn't work out you can try epoxy bedding the barrel lug if you choose to do so.

I drilled and tapped a 3/8” thick square piece of steel and tig welded it to the tang of my 452 Varmint a few years ago. When I get home tomorrow I will take a picture and post it. I can’t say it made it more accurate than when I had 6” of the barrel and the front lug bedded but it made me feel better. Just like all the work to my T1x to get the barrel shoulder up against the action face and to have a screw putting pressure rearward on it makes me feel better.

I'd like to see that as it sounds just like what I'm planning.

I ran a short experiment on the weekend to compare using the barrel boss (secured with a set screw) and running with just the 1 action screw. It was a limited sample size, but there appeared to be no appreciable difference. At least for me... I know others have stated they observed a significant improvement by removing the barrel boss.

I will confirm yet once again that the 457 model does come with aluminum pillars, nice work on the rear block 6mm,
My next chore is to see how easily I can get a 475 action into a 452 stock for my own selfish reasons, may just have to fill the inletting with epoxy and start the inletting all over from scratch

Just for the record. I removed the barrel lug on my 452 Varmint, made sure the action was well supported in the stock with just the one action screw (it is, no bedding required).
Sanded the channel a bit to make sure barrel is floated.
It's a tack driver.
I did the same with my 452 Silhouette, which is my most accurate CZ.
