Some of you will remember my lightweight 452 Scout carbon fibre stock project from last winter. This winter, I decided to build a full sized carbon fibre stock for my CZ455s and CZ452s. My goal was to build an extremely stiff, durable and lightweight version with a 14 in length of pull that could be used for target shooting and also for small game hunting. Here are some pictures from the project. If you are interested in details of the building process, you can visit the Scout carbon fibre stock build project:

Here are some pictures of the second prototype as it came out of the mold:

The bottom trigger guard and trigger plate recess is molded in using a removable insert. The 2 dark stripes are heavy duty carbon fibre stiffeners that strengthen the action area and form a “U” shape inside of the stock:

I can't fit more than 7 pictures per post.........:

I inlet the mag well before I glass bed the 455 action and barrel. It helps me to accurately align the barrelled action during glass bedding while maintaining proper clearance between the mag well and the stock.
I don’t have any serious machining equipment at home so I use Dremel with 2 routing attachments to get within a 1/64th and finish with hand tools such as files and sand paper. Same applies to inletting the action and the barrel.

I like to do a 2 stage bedding job. In the first stage, I bed a small portion of the action and the barrel while having the mag well, the trigger plate and both action screws (finger tight) in place.

When everything cures I have 2 small index areas in the stock that provide me with a perfect alignment between the stock, the barrelled action and the bottom metal.

Lightweight butt pad:
I use the flip flop idea that has been posted in the gunsmithing forum sometime ago. I fabricated a small fixture that enables me to machine in a curve into the flip flop material so the rifle can shoulder better than just with a flat piece of the flip flop material:

CZ455 Carbon with the CZ452 Scout Carbon for comparison. Each rifle is 1 lb lighter than with the factory stock

Thanks.

The first completed stock (painted, with the butt pad and sling studs) weighs 490 grams +/-

That's a very impressive end weight! Is there any flex in the front with that light a build? I think you could give Manners stock a run for the money with that type of work!

Going to sell these?

Same question but with a different inlet if the factory stock was provided?

I have considered purchasing a Manners stock in the past. The weight of their elite hunter series stocks (100% carbon fibre) is pretty much in line with what I build as long as you account for the stock size and hardware installed:
Their MCS-EH8 centre fire style stock is about the same dimensions as the 455/452 carbon fibre stock. They advertise it at 22-24 oz with a centre fire style recoil pad (Pachmayr being the lightest option at 5 oz). Their stock with a flip flop style butt pad would come out at about 18 to 20 oz; the first prototype I built is 17.5 oz...

The stock is very stiff, I layup multiple carbon fibre skins and vary the direction of the weave between each layer. The for-end is also stiffened with unidirectional carbon tow that I layup into the corners just beside the barrel channel. I didn’t notice any flex in the for-end while abusing it with my bare hands but I imagine it would eventually deflect if were to suspend the stock between 2 chairs and sit on it or abuse it otherwise.

This is a hobby for me, not a business opportunity. I am not planning to sell the stock to generate profit but will most likely make a few “flat top” uninleted stocks available so I can cover the cost of making the master model and the mold.

This is awesome, thank you!!! No flex at all. :)

That's going to be a neat winter project! Don't forget to post some pictures of your Anschutz 1727 "Carbon Fibre" when completed.
Thanks

Here is the last carbon fibre stock of the “building season”.

My CZ452 FS is one the most accurate CZs I have ever owned. I am curious how it is going to do with the composite stock and a free floated barrel. The rifle weighs just over 5 lbs.
