CZ457 Scope Rings? Mounting?

I’m going to be getting a CZ457 that only has dovetail mount. one option is a 419 base and rings or, just dovetail rings. i’ll be putting a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 50mm objective scope on it.

Now, if i went 419 base do you think i could get away with medium or low rings and have the 50mm objective clear the barrel? and if i went with just dovetail rings, what height do you guys think i’ll need?

if we still has big gun stores here i would go in and play till i found what i like. but, i’ll have to order online so i’d like to be pretty sure before i order ;) thanks!
 
About only thing I can suggest is to find specs for various ring heights - what one maker calls "Medium" height will be very close to another maker's "Low" height - does not make stuff easy if you literally have to go to a store and try various - instead of looking up specs and knowing what you need. I think Brownell's website postings often give an actual height in thousands of inch - sometimes to bottom of scope tube, sometimes to centre of ring. As per some emails I just sent to another CGN'r, do not overlook that you may need to allow for clearance at rear end, so that your bolt handle will pass beside the eye piece - it makes difference one scope brand to another - they for sure are not all the same external diameter - probably want to know the external diameters both front and rear to figure out what height mounting assembly to use. Because I am "older school" and tend to not use detach magazines, most of my rifles load through the top - so I prefer to have separate bases and rings, to keep the action area / top of magazine area as uncluttered as possible - the few "rails" that I tried, tended to want to close up what little space was left, there - under the scope. May or may not be issues for you. Good Luck!!

never considered different manufacturers have different specs for medium, high height etc…

nelson - I've got a 455 with a 0* CZ rail and use Vortex Pro Low rings with a 50mm Cabelas Covenant 6-24x50mm scope. I have lots of clearance, even with the 455's 90* bolt throw. And the objective is about 1/4" off the barrel, which is a SS 'standard profile'. I don't know what the '419' rail thickness is but with 25* should give you a few extra thous too.

nelson - those Vortex Pro Low rings are about $100 + tax at Cabelas/BP. 2-screws to rail & 4-on top of rings.
And the CZ rail is about $100 or so, I forget.
I took the stock (new2me) and stripped it with Dawn (only had wax, no poly/varnish) and lots of scrubbing, seems the oem stain was water/alc based? That lightened it a good deal, then I put about 10 coats of Min-Wax Paste Wax (like a floor wax) - about 1/4 the cost of Renaissance Wax.
 
vortex ringss are at the top of my list sofar. don’t really want to spend that much, but… i saw on cabelas they have the MDT base, 80.00 vs 130–135.00 for the Area 419 rail, wonder if the cost diff is worth it. i don’t mind spending the extra if it’s worth it!
 
Just looked here and they carry CZ parts - this is the page with rails. It doesn't say but they are prob aluminum too, but "Real" CZ parts . . . BTW - Mine is the Weaver style and the Vortex rings went on OK.

I have used MDT and CZ base, no big difference. Never used Area 419 but they look nice, it has a little bit extended forend and a tiny level bubble. Be mind that Area 419 is much higher than MDT or CZ base, that makes your scope farther away from barrel unless you get extra low rings.
To me Area 419 is NOT worth the price premium.

Have you looked at Burris Ringmounts? They are nicely sculptured, look nice and trim and come in various heights. Seem to be readily available and very reasonably priced. I have used quite a few of them on various rifles and calibers and have never had an issue. Recently mounted a Zeiss 4.5-14x44 on a CZ 457 Varmint, nice and low with perfect cheek weld, looks great, very pleased.

Burris 1" Rimfire-Deluxe Steel, High, Matte, Item #420076, gave me .150" clearance between objective bell and the barrel. $50.99 plus a few $ shipping from one of the site sponsors here. Very happy with this set up and would definitely do it again. Just checked and they are on sale right now for $43.34, heck of a good deal.

From all the reviews I've read, it looks like the bubble level reader is pretty hard to see and is pretty much useless because of its placement.

I would just save some money and get the CZ made 25 MOA unless you're really looking for a 15 or 30MOA.

BTW are you going to replace the trigger and/or barrel?
