I'm looking to get a CZ527 Varmint in .223 for my target shooting and varminting needs, however everywhere I look I see them in 1:12 twist. I thought that this twist rate was phased out in 2002 in favour of the 1:9? I am looking for the Walnut-stocked version, but I'll take the Kevlar if it's the only one offered in 1:9...

I really don't want to be restricted to 55gr. :(

Also, if this rifle does exist, where the heck can I get one. Even the big box retailers only seem to offer the Laminate(yuck) and Kevlar, but not Walnut.

Thanks for any help guys.

As far as I know the only version with 1:9 is the kevlar. I don't own one but a buddy does and it shoots awesome. I have wanted one for quite some time but it keeps getting pushed down on the list for some reason. Maybe this year I'll scrape some funds together for it.

I have the 527 Kevlar in .223 with the 1 in 9 twist. It has put ten rounds into 3/4",at 100 yards, and nine were in 1/2".

I suppose I can live with the Kevlar, I'll see how it feels when I get it. Theres nothing stopping me from getting a replacement OEM stock afterwards and selling the Kevlar stock a little down the road, save a bit of fitting.

Thanks guys.

The laminate varmits are 1in9 as all i have seen including my two are.i havent seen a walnut 1-9.couldnt find a kevlar and settled on the laminate then checked the twist rate with a rod and tape marked for 1rev and came up one in 9 went back to check the other one at the store and bought tgat one also . Gotta say they can shoot!im presently getting tgem glass beded as thyre bedding sucks. Will be shooting 300 yrds with the 223s was cold today

What sort of maximum ranges do you have in mind? If you're shooting mostly at 300 yards and under, most of the 40-55 grain bullets will work fine for varmint shooting and paper punching. Some 60 grain bullets will also work with a 1:12 barrel.

My range I have set up on private land goes out to 700 meters. I shoot anywhere within that.

I bought mine from Prophet River a while back. He is a site sponsor.

They list them as 1in9" on the website as well.

Thanks ACC, I'll zip them an email. I was planning on contacting them for a Kevlar if I couldn't find a Walnut.
