CZ550 varmint 22-250

did some more tests today with the lighter bullets and a little hotter loads.
tried magnum primers to see if it made a difference.even tried some 35gr vmax and they shot not bad.I started making some loads with win760 and reloader15,cant wait to try and see what kind of groups I get.

Went to the range today,a little cold but nice and sunny.
Tried my loads with winchester 760 and alliant reloader 15 powder.
Best was the sierra 52gr hpbt with 38.5gr of win760 powder.
It might be a good idea to have the action bedded. Here is some pictures of my results today.I would like to get the groups a little tighter than this.

Looking at your targets, I see you loaded 37.5 gr of Re15 over a 55gr VMax? That's a pretty HOT load in my books!!
I dare you to try 35.5 gr of Re-15 behind those 55's I get great result with that recipe.

I'll give it a try when my rifle is back from the gunsmith.

I've got a CZ550 Varmint in 308 and those targets look kinda familiar. If you look at the targets you've posted, some of them have a pecular horizontal stringing, rounds side by side in an almost straight colum.

I'd guess you're using CZ rings?? The ones with a single bolt holding down the ring and two bolts holding the base of it onto the integral mount. That single bolt comes loose and will produce groups just like that.

In fact, I still have about a half dozen targets that have groups that look like that on all five bullseyes, 4 in a row and one a bit low under it. It started during load workup and I attributed it to load problems at first. Then I got a load with uniform velocities and it still persisted. Drove me wild, the groups were only 0.3 vertically, but 1.1" wide center to center.

I still haven't changed the rings because I was going to put a ken farrel 20 MOA rail on it, I haven't had the extra money yet. Might just put leupold rings on it and sell it since I really needed a 22-250 when I bought it.

Anyway, as I get real windy, give that a check and it could be your problem.

OH yeah, the front action screw tends to loosen off every now and then on those CZ's as well, not much, but enought to feel the barrel move when celaning it and that is enough to cause accuracy issues too.

Tried my rifle today after having the action glass bedded. It tightened up a little bit but nothing special.I might have to play a little with the loads that performed the best. This gun does not like 60 gr bullets at all.The 52 gr sierras with win 760 did pretty good and also the 40gr vmax with varget. All of these were loaded using remington cases.I'll try win cases next trial.Another thing I will try is the win white box ammo from wallyworld just to see how they perform.

I have the same model rifle; I replaced the CZ scope rings because the scope was mounted to high and I couldn't get a good check weld. I noticed when I pulled them off I also had a screw loose (the one the holds the base to the ring) as jtoews80 stated. The only rings I could get were the leupy in medium which put my scope where I wanted it. Went out and after sighting in was able to shoot a couple ok groups (.355 and .335 @100yrds). When I got home I checked the action screws and noticed the rear screw was also loose; something I need to keep and eye on. I will post pics once I figure out how.

I put those Leupold rings on my CZ 602, much better rings and cheaper than the CZ. I will be replacing the 308's mounts and rings when I have money to spend on it. I want to use a 20 MOA rail, but the leupold rings will work well too. Right now the sporting/hunting fund has other priorities. Just small stuff like bills....

I've had trouble with the CZ integral mounts when mounting a scope. I finally had to use a 1" bar to lap the rings and have them properly aligned. In a pinch a weight bar will work to align the rings and not warp your scope tube. You'll know there is pressure on your tube or that you've warped it when you try to bore sight. The recticle will not move or will run out of adjustment before you get it sighted.

Did another trial today.Picked out the best groups I've had so far and loaded up some more test ammo.Varget 40gr with 40gr vmax,Win760 40gr with 40gr vmax and Win760 38gr with 52gr hpbt sierra had the best groups.I tried a 35gr vmax with 40gr varget and that had a nice group also.Haven't found any whitebox win ammo at wally world yet to try.here's some pic's of targets and one of my rig.I've got my groups down to size of a quarter but would like to see a little better.

great shooting today!

Finally got some very nice groups out of this rifle:D.It really likes the lite bullets.I should have blasted off a round before my test to get rid of any oil in the barrel. The first shot was off a little.Using Win760@40gr with 40gr vmax I got three shots at 0.115".With Win760@40gr and 35gr vmax I had four shots at 0.383".Last group had Varget@40gr and 35gr vmax it had three shots at 0.175".Shooting at 100M.Very nice sunny day and no wind at the range.Really happy with the results today:dancingbanana:
