How do the CZ compare with Tikka's? It looks like they are very close in price (within a $100 or so, Tikka being the more expensive one). I hear rave review regarding both, just wondering if there is a distinct advantage of one over the other.

Limited stock choices for Tikka's is one drawback.
I see the CZ advantage being that thumbhole type stocks are available for the CZ at http://www.rifle-stocks.com/actions_available.htm .

If you are buying it and going to restock it anyway how about a Robertson stock? Made in Canada, just about any colour or colour combination you want, lot of styles. No duty at the border, no customs BS. Made to order and he will fit the action for you.
I don't think the Richards Microfit Gunstocks are really a drop in, they do need some fitting.

If you know of ANY options for a replacement stock for a Tikka, please fill me in. To me knowledge, there are zero choices. I do hope that you prove me wrong, however.

If your gonna restock it, why not buy a Remington SPS and pick from any type stock you want?

I put mine into a McMillan.

Why buy remington when you can buy a Tikka and put it in a Mcmillan A-5, Done. Dont need no more aftermarket gizmos , trigger is adjustable down to 2 lbs. as per instructions in factory owners manual and already has detachable mag. If need be picatinny rails are available and you are set. Also Robertson is gearing up to make stocks for Tikka's so you will be able to shop at home.:dancingbanana:

Those Tikkas in an A5 would be a very nice combo, but because this is a "hunting & sporting arms" section I was thinking more along those lines with the available stocking options for a Remington.

The A5 is a wee bit on the tactical/precision rifle side of things.

Plus all the other cool stuff you can get for a Rem 700... ;)

FinnLanders are much more serious about building good rifles than Yankee accountants. Tilka over a Remington any day. The CZ is different,it's a old fashioned mauser design, very high on reliablity. But unless you are worried about charging lions, the modern Tilka is the better choice.

Absolutely! The Tikkas are great rifles.

Out of the box, I would totally agree that they have it over Remingtons, but the original post alluded to restocking. Aftermarket options is where the Remingtons shine way past the other two gun makers.

I would always take a Tikka over a CZ. The last few CZ rifles I bought were a little rough around the edges, the QC seems to have slid a bit. As far as Remingtons go, why pay for a rifle, then put in at least that much again trying to make it as good as it should have been right out of the box. The only NA produced rifle that is great value as delivered was the Savage line. Then they put in a safety trigger from the 1960s and spoiled things!

I am not a troll, Badgers live in holes, not under bridges, an important distinction!

Ok, sounds like Tikka wins. I really do want a thumbhole stock for it though. I wonder if there are any aftermarket thumbhole stocks available in the Tikka's country of origin?

Unfortunately the Finns are less serious about it since being taken over by Italian accountants but even so I too would rather have a Tikka than a Remington.

Between Tikka and CZ it's a tougher choice and comes down to your own preference. The Tikka is a push feed rifle that has a detachable magazine that can't be top loaded and can be had in lighter configuration. The CZ is a controlled-feed, fixed magazine that will be heavier and has fewer options than the Tikka.

The only objection I have about the CZ is the set trigger. I don't like them on field rifles.

I've used both but as for cost when I can buy a CZ for less than decent glass I go CZ every time. I'm old fashioned, I like wood on my rifles, they're no safe queens but I still like the feel of timber on my rifle. having had plastic rifles from HM Govt I prefer the feel of wood and steel.
Beside I like the Full stocks available in CZ and on a Tikka they would looka bit odd!

Old style Tikka vs. CZ - tough choice. CZ vs. Tikka T3 - CZ wins every time. Depends what you are looking for in a rifle. Love my old Tikkas, but my every day hunting rifle is a CZ537.

Another vote for CZ , you only have to use the set trigger if you want to and at the bench it is a nice feature for load development/ accuracy, the regular trigger is fully adjustable for pull , travel and overtravel, the set trigger is adjusted seperately. I like the CRF, the fact it holds 5 in the magazine, iron sights and floorplate with the release on the outside of the trigger guard. In all fairness I havent owned a tikka but have had a Sako AV and L61 and prefer the CZ any day of the week.
