I used my 11" CZ in 7.62x39 today in the CQB match. It was raining, so i thought no optics was the way to go. This rifle has a peep sight and a bright orange post front sight. I was right. The sight picture was always good.

But I discovered that the rifle has a problem. Sometimes the bolt would not close. It hangs up, leaving the bolt open an inch. I cannot see what hangs it up.

If I tap the bolt handle, it snaps closed the rest of the way.

It did this before, so the rain was not the cause. Tonight I cleaned the rifle and sprayed the action with lithium crease, and it still hangs up.

Has this problem been seen before? What is the fix?

Probably the bolt hold open latch is catching on the underside of the bolt about half way up. It's probably doing it on the last round. You can file it down a little or figure out why it's popping back up.

see if the factory "gremlin" tab on the bolt carrier is catching it may just need to be filed down a bit. thats the only thing that i have seen that will hold it up part way

It does this with no mag installed.

What tab on he bolt are you talking about?

is it possible for the leading edge of the bolt to hit something?

Check the bolt and the guide rail it slides in for rub marks. My brand new unfired 848 did that as a result of me replacing the rear stock. In order to break the bolt holding the stock loose I clamped the receiver wrapped in rags in a vice and not realizing my folly slightly distorted the receiver. The rub marks on the high spots were apparent. I ended up having to caliper the receiver spreading it ever so gently where it narrowed with an alligator porta power and doing a fine lapping with fine valve grinding compound. Took it to the range last week and it worked perfectly despite my folly. Won't do that again!

the location of your bolt indicates that the bolt is hung up on the sear disconnector .

what if you move the trigger forward , will the bolt slam shut ?

if so , then check your trigger has the wire spring in place .

It is quite new. Maybe 200 rounds. Rub marks should be obvious. I will look.

Another possible site for binding is the spring guide rod in the top cover. Check that it is straight and that it is perfectly parallel to the lower edges and and centered in the cover over its entire length. If it isn't straight or perfectly aligned it will bind the spring inside the bolt drilled hole.

"the bolt is hung up on the sear disconnector."

Yes. This is the problem. When it is hung up I just discovered I can release the bolt by pulling the trigger. But then it won't fire because it is not cocked.

I took rifle apart and ran the bolt carrier back and forth with the bolt installed. I can see what is happening.

The vertical tab on the trigger (the disconnect, I assume?) is hanging up on a steel tab at the back of the bolt carrier. This tab has a section milled out on the other side.

I assume it is this tab that compresses the disconnect, so just removing a lot of metal won't be the answer.

Should I remove a smidgen of metal, or just round it a bit so it won't hang up the bolt?

When it comes to removing metal, I have to get it right. A ##### to put it back....

Locking lever is down and locked.

The flat surface on top of the tab is the max travel given to the disconnect. It looks like I can radius the front side of the tab a bit so the angle the tab hits the disconnect is not quite so vertical.

I have now played with the rifle after the mod.

If I gently easy the bolt forward, it will hang up on the disconnect. But if it has any inertia it pops past. I think the problem is now solved. And the disconnect will still be given a full push downwards.

I'm having a similar issue to the OP with my Cz 858, with the selector in "fire" position with no magazine inserted, riding the charging handle will get the rifle stuck about an inch out of battery. Pushing the trigger forward results in the bolt slamming home, as does moving the selector to "safe". With the selector in "safe", the bolt can be ridden closed, and with the selector in "fire" but without riding the bolt, the action closes. I have noticed an area of wear on the tab where it may be getting caught, but is there an easier way to fix this besides filing it?

Darn it, every time I'm ready to jump into one of these little darlings another one of these threads pop up. I have a dead trigger, help. I think I have the gremlin, help. I have a broken shell casing stuck in the chamber, help. Now Ganderite who in my estimation is pretty near a gun smith in his own right is taking files to make his rifle work  !

What's with these guns!! With a military weapon, am I being unrealistic to expect it to go bang every time I pull the trigger??
