cz858 BARREL REDUCTION QUESTION.

cut , lathe the OD to fit the front sight over, re-thread for muzzle brake, make slots for the front sight.

i will begin by saying best you read the legalese section and have it done professionally .

as far as i know you cannot shorten the CZ non-restricted barrel , it will become prohib.

not sure about restricted barrel .

or as 999 suggested get a new manufactured barrel.

and then you have to deal with chrome bore.

I just got a restriced 858 tactical 2 or whatever it is called. Hitting the gong at 200 with every shot. That is practical accuracy. Only fored eighty rounds without a stoppage.
The barrel it comes with is of course chromed and short enough. Too short a barrel will not allow for all the propellant to be utilized. It seems a perfect lenghth for me but I realize others may like it shorter.
Any gunsmith can do the job and it is legal from what a smith told me.
 
FYI you may not legally cut or machine any barrel if you do the barrel becomes a phohibited device. The only way is to have a barrel made from a blank.

If I may ask gents, is there anyone manufacturing short barrels for the VZ-58 platform, and can we get them in Canada??

Suprathepeg is in the process of making these. I suspect they will be available end of the year.

What constitutes 'manufacturing'? Import barrels and 'manufacture' new barrels from them? Fresh blanks only?

How hard is it to swap a barrel?

It would be great that someone might have some at sometime......somewhere...

Yeah good question... if i turned a barrel blank on my own lathe and chambered it would that be legal?

The only way I would buy a short barrel if it was coupled with a custom gas block front sight or a modified AK47 sight. It just doesn't look right with the factory front sight.

Ok so i had a 26 inch barrel cut down to 24 and re-crowned by a well know and reputable alberta gunsmith who I do not think is ignorant to the law. Does this make my rifle prohibited ?
