I just got a replacement handguard, but it didn't come with a pin. The pin on the stock handguard has a detent, and locks so it cannot be removed accidentally. How does one get it out so I can use it with the new handguard?

Upper handguard. The upper handguard has a pin that slides aside, then stops. I want to completely remove the pin so I can put it into my new handguard.

There is a small hole underneath the pin. Use a thumbtack with some downward force and it will allow you to pull the whole pin out. Watch for flying detent and spring.

Just use a punch to gently tap the pin out but be careful to not loose the little spring and plunger when the pin will go out. I removed mine without problem. To reassemble, a needle can be put in small hole below the pin to keep the plunger down so the pin will be more easy to insert in the handguard.

Handguard is now on (took some doing. The stock lower handguard was on ####-eyed). Kobra is now installed. I am very happy.

Lol... He makes it look so easy. I was just putting on the upper BC tactical handguard (I like the look of the wood). My lower handguard was slightly higher on the left, and both had little burrs of beaver barf preventing the rear of the upper handguard from seating. A half hour of filing ensued. Then I realized that despite being seated, the holes for the pin didn't line up. Examination resulted in finding the problem: the upper handguard was slightly too long (pressure fit, very tight tolerances). After another 45 minutes of filing the handguard, I could use an allen key to pull the holes into alignment from the opposite side of the pin, allowing the pin to be inserted. Its VERY tight.
