So ive been looking for a shell deflector for some time now without any luck. I decided to just make my own. I think it turned out pretty good.

Started with just a simple piece of steel cut to rough length

For a solid mounting point i decided to remove the upper hand guard snap pin and weld a bolt to steel plate. simply slides right thru and tightened with a nut.

Now i had a good solid mounting point to start working the metal into a shape that wil both protect my scope and give me clearance at the ejection port.
( KEEP IN MIND THIS IS FOR TEST FIT, I HAVE A BURRIS PEPR QD MOUNT COMING IN THIS WEEK)

Im happy with the overall shape. ill be using it like this tomorrow, leaving the extra length around the scope then doing some final trimming and shaping once i recieve my burris mount. then of course ill paint it. post up finished pics when im done.

im trimming once i get final scope position with my new burris mount. the big up swept part or sail lol wont be there.

im in an office yes, after hours, locked door with mirrored windows. not where i did my work just where i took pics.

It's a thing that goes up!

How are you mounting it rearward? With only one rounded mounting pin it looks like it could move around a bit. Might be possible to lower the plate as well - make it more like a dust cover than a deflector in size and shape. As long as it didn't lock up the ejection or bounce brass back in it'd work without impeding anything or catching on things.

Love it, but looks a bit large.
Another idea would be to roll it slightly downward so the spent shells dont hit youre neighbor beside you at the range.?
Id get rid of the corners and sharp looking edges... who needs a cut on their hand when out shooting. Great job!..:)

Yes this is just the rough guide. I'm waiting for a pepr mount from Burris before I finalize my bends and round it off. Also have some rubber material that goes around all edges. It's quite tight and trying to move it by hand bends the metal before it ever loosens. I'm sure it will be find but thanks for criticism.
