Who has the best deal on CZ858 mags?I would also like one of the mag pouches that came with some of the rifles. Are they sold separately or do they only come as part of the original kit?I guess while im at it what spare parts should I have on hand for it?They sound like reliable rifles but what parts wear out or are prone to breakage?

Best current deal on new manufacture:

Wolverine supplies, KCI Mags, $20/per

Best current deal on surplus:

Leverarms, $25/per

Corwin-Arms frequently gets un-issued surplus mags in, and they're just awesome quality (I have 4 of them) and immaculate, but he appears to be currently out of stock.

For the pouches, your best bet is evilBay. don't know anyone who's currently carrying them. A quick search for "vz 58 mag pouch" on ebay.ca brought up a lot of choices, including the fake leather ones that came with the CZ made guns from Wolverine. Depending on wear and tear, they go for between $15-$40. But look carefully at the listings. Quite often, the more expensive listings end up being cheaper, because they'll throw in shipping for free.

The other thing to note is that CZ-58 mags will fit in pretty much any AK-47 mag pouch, and this gives you a lot more options depending on how you want to kit yourself out. I have a 3 mag AK-47 canvas pouch that came with a cleaning kit (with pull through brush and a few odds and sods) in a nice compact cannister in a separate small pouch. Can't remember when/where/why I got it, just came across it in the garage the other day while I was sorting through my piles of random Red Rifle gear. I slide 3 CZ mags in and I think I'll designate it as my pouch for bush carry. Nice to have a pull through cleaning kit with you when camping.

Fair warning, there is a lot of bad reviews on the KCI Vz58 mags.

wolvetrine had found that they worked perfectly in the cz858 but not in the CSA VZ58 because the magwell is slighty different wich is another reason why lots of after market stuff need to be fitted in the CSA

Wolverine also had plenty of complaints about the mags being pinned to only 4 rounds, and that the mags wouldn't feed in any rifle. I assume that's why they're $20 now.

Here's a interesting one, I have one and it's nice! (2 mags + cleaning kit)
Strange though as I never seen one actually in use by the Czechs...

I remember seeing an old training video on Youtube of the Czechoslovak Army where they were using the pouches (they had no chest rigs or anything like that). I'm guessing the video was probably from the 1970s. I can't seem to find it anymore though. :(

And the one from Zahal ? They are pinned to5

I have one from Zahal, it was pinned very tightly.

I bought a 4 pack of surplus mags from lever arms for $75 this summer, They aren't pretty compared to the new ones that came with the rifle but they work good and are cheap. As for a pouch, the NCstar/VISM AK chest rig seems to work ok and isn't very expensive.

Compared to the Russian SPOSN I bought this summer, those VISM ones are disconcertingly cheap. I'd still get one to try it out though...
