CZ858 vrs SKS

I already own an SKS but I really like the look of the CZ858 but at 3.5 times the cost of the average SKS how does one justify the added expense (not that it need justifying ). I suppose what I'm asking is what makes the 858 worth so much more? Is it that much more accurate than an SKS?? Easier to clean/strip & assemble?? Is it simply that they are brand new production vrs surplus SKS that have been sitting in cosmoline?? The way I see it, for the price of a CZ858 I could get a nice Russian SKS and approx 3000 rounds of surplus ammo What am I missing???

The accuracy with an SKS varies greatly depending on the rifle. I have 3 and only 1 is somewhat close the CZ858. If you just want to blast away surplus ammo, the SKS is fine. I have changed the stock on my CZ and it fits me really well, so I can now actually do some decent target shooting at 100m.

Personally I have an SKS and a CZ 858.
I enjoy shooting my cz 858 100 times more then the SKS.

advantages are from my personal use.

- easier to take apart and put back together,
-mags u can drop mags in and out. and several designs of mags, 5 round short mag, and the 5/30 mags (pinned of course, but atleast easy to pop out the pin not that i would) yes i know u can do it with an sks but after u mod it with a new stock
- very accurate (i put a 4 power psop side mount scope) and i get 1" groups at 100 yards. I also shoot stock iron sights and do very well at 50 and 100 yards, better then my sks.
- more nice mods, and more being made for them, can customize to look like a SVD, AK, or a nice black rifle.
- Training courses, some of the sponsors offer training courses for cz / vz
-Higher resale, sks's are a dime a dozen everyone has one, cz has a good resale on it, even with the new models coming out on the market.

I bought my CZ first and then the sks just to have one, the sks gets an avg 20-40 rounds per time at the range the cz gets an avg of 200 each time i go because it is more enjoyable to shoot.

Went through the same thing 9 months ago. Ended up with both. The SKS usually sits at home now while the 858 is on the third crate of ammo. The 858 handles better is more accurate and is just more fun to shoot. Just love it!
