Czech 308 ammo in an M14

The Corrosive stuff? No...I don't mind corrosive in $VZ-58's and SKS, but the m-14 has more nooks and crannies that corrosive salts could rest even after an ok cleaning, at least imo.

This is a terrible answer. The S&B yellow/green box stuff coming in is commercial ammo - non-corrosive. As is the Zinc plated MFS stuff as well. Is there actually any corrosive .308 on the market right now? I don't know of any, and if there were, I'm sure alot of the guys on this forum would be using it and cleaning properly and never have an issue.

yes several dealers are selling czech SURPLUS not the commercial S&B ammo

And it all seems to be corrosive, for the record.

If they were bringing in non-corrosive, brass cased, boxer primed surplus at a rate of $11 per box, you better believe I'd be buying it up!

Yes, The 7.62x51 ammo is in greenish / blue boxes, I think it's copper washed. Really corrosive, shot some in my 308 bolt gun and within 1 to 3 hrs got back in from a days hunt and wala frosting, just about died..

You probably know more about that than I do.

However, I was led to believe that some S&B product was in fact corrosive, their 7.62x39 for SKS/VZ

Yes apparently there is, my dealer actually sells some, and states this up front. But I made the mistake of thinking the original poster was talking about this ammo, when I don't recall the make or country of origin for this corrosive .308.

Yes, several hundred rounds. Buy a kettle for BOILING water, forget about the "just spray Windex in the bore"

What exactly do you do , just take off the whole gas system and plunge it into the boiling water ? or can you just pour it in , or submerge the barrel into like a 5 gallon bucket and use a bore brush ?

I remove the steel from the stock, then remove the piston from the gas system.
Remove the bolt from the receiver.
Using a funnel, pour the water down the barrel from the action end. Most will exit the muzzle, some will overflow out the now open gas system.
Catch the water in a big bucket. Have the bolt and piston in the bucket while flooding the bore.
As the water is boiling hot it will heat the steel parts so that when you finish, the remaining water drop boil away.

I just grabbed a box of 147grain Sellier & Bellot .308 FMJ for $15.99
Non corrosive, brass cased boxer primed. Hope my rifle likes them.
Also have another box of 145 grain Privi .308 FMJ for $18.99, brass, non cor, boxer.
Hope my rifle doesn't like them as much as the S&B.
