Get 1,000 Czech 7.62x39.....almost 5% misfire rate on Lever Arm SKS....

Have no idea what's the problem since the gun is new too....any body get same problem? thanks in advance...

Do you know anyone else with an SKS who could try out the ammo? You could possibly determine if it's the ammo or your rifle.

Should've bought a Yugo model SKS. It hits the primer much harder. I never had a Failure to Fire.

The real problem is it's old ammo with really hard primers. You need to hit that primer harder. Maybe get a stronger spring for your hammer.

I get around that many missfires with that ammo in my Ruger M77mk2 as well. I just recock and fire again after a short safety delay and they have all fired on the second strike.

i have a lever arms SKS 040 series and never had a misfire. I also use the Czech ammo. I have only about 400 rounds put through it though. Actually, come to think of it I had one misfire. I just waited, then reloaded and fired it off.

I just wonder rather we can have some non-corrosive 7.62 x 39. If the Czeth is not good and corrosive why so many people use them.

try cleaning the bolt with boiling water, dry well (i put mine on top of the heater for a while) and apply a little oil, and give her another go.

Corrosive it is, yes. Not good, this varies, I've shot thousands of them and NEVER had a FTF or FTE. But people use it because it is cheap, widely available and made to mil-spec. I've shot commercial 7.62X39 in my SKS and trust me, it's dangerous, lots of slamfire.

It works fine as long as you clean your gun after you use it with this ammo. There isn't a whole lot of non corrosive ammo out there so this is the best bang for the buck. Unfortunately we can't get the same non corrosive stuff they have in the US. I think Russells or SIR has some Norinco 7.62, but shipping the stuff is quite expensive as its dangerous goods, and heavy.

Yeah, the commercial 7.62 is no good in the sks like what PoFF said, because the primers are too soft. besides its too damned expensive! Something like $11 for a box of 20:eek:

I put 200 rounds of Czech ball down range. Four failure to fire with good strike marks on the primer. Three refired, one was a total dud. That's about 2 percent.
