hi i am really thinking about the sti trojan 6.0 in 45 acp. i am wondering if anyone has one and would like to comment on it.i like the look of the longer barrel/slide. and also i am wondering if i should get it in the hard chrome finish. thus leads me to my next qeustion.....how is the durability of the finish, how easy to keep clean?:D:D:D:D

i would love to hear comments on this gun ive been reading many mixed thoughts on this gun but most are good.so a few more reveiws would be great.

I have no experience with the Trojan 6.0 in .45 but I have lots of experience with 2 Trojan 5" in 9mm due to working at a rental range and my final answer is buy with confidence.

Keeping in mind that I have direct experience with these guns which are not abused but are not treated like safe queens and see thousands and thousands of rounds per week, I can say that for the same price, there may be equal 1911s but I highly doubt there are better ones. The other 1911s we have are .45s and are the Remington R1, a couple of SIGs, and an Iver Johnson. The Iver and Remington are about half the price but the SIGs are in the same price bracket and I can say with confidence that the STIs absolutely destroy the SIG when it comes to reliability and durability. This is not a bash on SIGs as it is more praise on STIs. Thousands of rounds per week and constantly being handled by first-time shooters is bound to take its toll on most any gun and our Glocks and STIs handle it the best. This is what I have seen with my own two eyes but our Trojans outlast everything except Glock. Yes, they outlast SIG 1911s and P22Xs, M&Ps, Beretta 92s, CZs, HKs, etc.

It is actually crazy considering 1911s are regarded as a platform which requires more end-user knowledge and regular maintenance and they are more finicky... and overall I believe this to be true so I'm not sure what is up with our STIs (2 Trojans and a Ranger II) but without any special attention, they just keep on trucking.

i also own a trojan in 9mm and i paid to have the fiber optic front sight from the factory, i love this gun and i dont think you'll be disapointed if you take the plunge, wether it be in the 5.0 or the 6.0

just leave in mind that if you buy the 6.0 it will be longer then the normal 1911 and that will limit you in the aftermarket parts, and holster department

as for holster it doesn't really matter, i think the fobus i got might work. i don't do any true competetion shooting, just me and maybe a buddy at the range.and for mods i like the original.(maybe a few things like trigger, safety thats about it. (mostly universal part changes) i am more of a bullseye shooter.

with that in mind....once my buddy gets back from holidays i'll get him to order me one in. i will be going with the 6" as it just looks so damn kool.:cool:

but the hardest of all qeustions will be how is the hard chrome finish???? is it worth the 300$ more then blued??

I have used the Trojan "long-slide" 45, and like it a lot. Its pretty accurate and durable. I would buy it over the 5" for target work, and the price point is hard to beat.

The frame and parts are the same as for the "government" model.

I would recommend the Aftec extractor as an upgrade, and, because its an STI, you get to choose whether you want thin grips or not at no extra cost.

If you choose a hard-chrome finish from the dealer, it will be a custom order, and cost about $400 extra. STI sends out all of their hard chrome work to the same outfit, who do a high-quality job. Expect to wait an extra month, on top of the 4 to 5 months it will take to get delivery of the long-slide.

If you have the patience, it will be well rewarded with an outstanding firearm that is a pleasure to shoot, and the envy of most other shooters.

.

I just ordered an STI Trojan .40 with the hard chrome finish. It'll be a few months before I get it but I'll let you know how it works out as soon as I get it in my hands. I'll be using it for IPSC and 3-gun.

I have had both a Trojan 5in in 9mm and a chrome target master 6 in and I have sold both. The worst decisions I have ever made. Been trying to find guns this accurate ever since. The 6 inch Target Master was a little picky on ammo but these are great guns. Whatever the price.

named after a condom...

I would let mine protect me. :D

Love mine, Armco tuned and chambered it into a 10mm auto. I don't run it hard with reloads, On the warm side of 40 S&W loads. Very accurate and well put together IMHO. So far my favorite 1911 that I have owned.

I would think the 6.0 would be just as good. Probably more fun in 10mm with the extra slide weight.
