I am going to buy one of these guns, but which one? How do they compare for fit and finish and how do they shoot? Which one do you own and why do you like it? This will primarily be a bush gun with bear defense in mind. Thanks in advance and all comments welcome.

I have owned 2 norinco ones and had problems with both. One was firing when chambered. There was a batch of norincos that had problems I think it was the 3 pin ones. I have never shot the dominion arms one so I do not know. Most reviews are positive here.

I find that my Norinco HP9-1 is a toughly made gun, but the fit and finish are pretty rudimentary. The trigger was initially really gritty and it was not smooth to pump, but it got better with snapcaps.

They are pretty much the same gun, both made by Chinese assault IIRC. There might be differences in quality between the different batches made and one has a shorter barrel then the other but other then that they are very similar. I own the Dominion and find it to be a great shotgun, never had a problem with it and it takes a good beating.

Two strikes against Norinco.

No problems and rugged is what I'm looking for. So far DA is in the lead.

Pretty much the same gun, different barrel length. The HP-9 would be a good option if you wanted a short barrel but a +1 mag extension. Otherwise the 12" barrel gets my vote.

I've got a DA. Fit and finish is on par with my 870 express. One could spend a little bit of time with some fine sandpaper / emery cloth and polish the action etc for smoother cycling or just shoot a couple 100 rounds.

I have a DA Grizzly as well. I love mine, no problems to date. Rougher action to start, but as mentioned, shoot a bunch and it will get smoother. I trusted mine enough to have some custom work done (parked and Wilson Tactical GR sights added).

have you seen the recent Expresses?
IMO the DAs have a much better finish. or at least the first batch did -- the latest 8.5's are slacking a bit in the finish department.

DA Grizzly pulling out in front.

Hopefully the next batch of Grizzlys will have a better finish. It still sounds like they are a better choice.

I love my HP9-1!

It has a parkerized finish vs the DA black oxide.
From new, mine was smoother than any 870 Express.
She has a Wilson +1 extension.
6 Round side saddle.
Picatinny rail with a red dot sight.
Hogue overmold stock set, for now.
Several hundreds of rounds later (slugs and some buckshot only), very reliable and a little smoother.

I really like my HP9-1. Just had the barrel threaded for screw in chokes. Very smooth action but not a great trigger. Easily fixed though. I like the extra round in the 14" with a +1 also. I vote HP9-1 14".

I tested my HP9-1 extensively when I first got it and found that it was 100% reliable with all ammo. After that I modified it with Wilson sights, a +1 extension, Wilson follower, Knoxx Specops stock, modified and cylinder Winchokes and a Surefire forend.

It is a rock solid shooter.

I'm quite happy with my HP9.
I had reservations at first, but after the first box of ammo it smoothed up quite a bit.
Works well, and feels very robust.

Don't have a Grizzly, so I can't make a comparison.
