Question for DA Grizzly 870 clone owners. How are your aftermarket stocks mating up at the back of the Grizzly receivers?

I put a Hogue set one mine today, and the fit at the back of the receiver isn't great at the top. It's not unbearable, but not a smooth transition by any means.

The Chinese stock (that weighed a metric sh!t-ton) fit well around the contour. I don't have a real 870 receiver here to put the hogue on for comparison, but I have two Hogue butts here and they both fit my Grizzly identically. I also don't have another 870 stock to try for comparison.

Anyone else see this? I'm probably going to get the gun ceracoated and the bbl cut for chokes, so I may get the back of the receiver better blended at the same time, but curious if this is a common issue or not?

Lots of meat here for choke threading:

And by the way, this stock set is a VAST improvement over the Chinese stock. Hugely recommend a hollow north american stock set to reduce the weight of the Grizzly.

That fitment is somewhat typical with the Grizzly.
I've never had a Hogue stock on either of mine, but my wood Express stock has the same fitment, only not as pronounced.
My Magpul stock lines up near perfect though.

What I did to bring the Express wood stock closer go lining up was I loosened the bolt and pushed the stock upwards from behind the trigger group as I re tightened the bolt. That made up some of the extra space.

It also looks like this new batch has a slightly different mag cap. It has a loop on the end instead of the hanging sling plate.

Looks good! That Hogue set is nice.

Thanks for the heads up. It's up as far as it will go in the photo. Odd that a magpul stock would fit so well if other 870 stocks are not flush to the receiver. Makes me wonder if the magpul stocks would overhand a Remington receiver?

I'm probably gonna use Tac Ord for my shotgun work, will call them fist to see if they will deal with this or not. If not, I'll prep the metal myself before shipping it.

less obvious mods I made include a metal Williams oversized left-handed safety button, an S&J follower, and a Wolffe +10% spring.

How did you find the forend install? The Grizzly forend tube is a few millimeters bigger than the 870 and can be stubborn sometimes.

It took some persuasion, but went on in the end. Tight fit, which is actually nice. It actually put it in a bit, then removed it multiple times. The threads on the tube acted a bit like a file and resulted in a nice even fit.

Thanks Simon - if I'm blasting and cerakoting anyhow, should I just blend it with a file, then polish to about 400? Is that what you are doing if/when you build a Grizz?

I've noticed that my Grizz seems a fair bit heavier than my Wingmaster, is the receiver actually thicker - has anyone measured them for comparison? Wall thickness, internal/external dimensions, etc.

Don't get me wrong, the stock snugs in tight, it makes full contact all around, the issue is that there is a sharp ledge, about 1mm to 1.5mm high, around the top of the stock as shown in my fist photo.

The other issue is that the Remington barrels I installed to check fit were all indexed off about 4 degrees clockwise (viewed from the back like when holding the gun). I have a 28" express bbl I just fitted to the Grizzly so I can use the shotgun for waterfowl when not mounting the 12.5" tube. I had to file the indexing slot upward 25 thou and silver solder a 25 thou shim to the bottom of the indexing slot to get the vent rib to top dead centre.

It fits and looks great now.

The Remington barrel would have worked before, but the vent rib being out of index was really visually annoying. These are definitely not a 100% dimensionally accurate copy of a Remington. Should be fine once I get all the kinks out of it.

All seriousness - can anyone else with an aftermarket (non dominion arms) butts tick installed from the same rear angle I posted? I'm curious how other people's stocks stack up to mine.

Old pic of magfed if you zoom in you can see it's the same as yours and that's a Remington sure shot stock

Stock adapter sits a touch high
