Looking for suggestions/tips on how to "tune up" an 870 clone out of the box? (im getting a 15" mag fed version soon). My understanding is that they are "rough around the edges" and would like to "polish" it up.

I just replaced the fore grip, carefully polished all contact edges (lightly) a bit of lube and it is super smooth I found not as nice as my old 870s but hey they are tanks love mine after 3 or so years. Any reason why you are going for the tube model?

Found the mag fed models too bulky bad for packing in the bush or pulling from a case/ scabbard?? I also added a 12" Hogue stock.

Chuck up a cleaning rod in a drill use a brass brush wrapped in fine steel wool soaked in oil and polish the chamber
This is one of the best things the rest will sort its self out with shooting it. I can post pics on my completely polished and honed mag fed tomorrow.
The mags sometimes need work, the front of the follower sometimes needs to be dented outwards to help with feeding as well as the feed lips on the mags.

Do you want to customize it, or just make it work better? I am a fan of the basic format, so I have nothing to say about customizing it.

To do a functional tune up: Completely disassemble the shotgun and give it a very thorough cleaning (leave the trigger group intact, but clean and degrease it thoroughly). DO NOT yet lube it. Reassemble the shotgun, and cycle and dry fire the p1$$ out of it (thousands of cycles, while watching a movie or something like that). Doing this dry (without lube) accelerates the wear-in process. If you have dummy rounds, cycle them as well (easy to make using fired hulls and 3/4" dowel).

Disassemble the firearm again, and give it another cleaning. You should be able to clearly see where it is wearing (finish is worn off). You can stone and polish those areas to great effect. While you're at it, polish the chamber and barrel as described above.

Lube, reassemble, and you will have a MUCH smoother feeling shotgun.

Then use it for a range session or two, and you will quickly learn which sharp edges can be smoothed for a better feeling shotgun.

Or just shoot it and shoot it some more. :) The 870 design wears in very, very nicely.

Awesome thanks guys (just got it in the mail today). I am wondering if any youtube vids exist (ill have a look now:)
