Hello M14 experts!

I bought a DA Socom from Canadaammo a while go and haven't had a chance to look over it for a few months (this is my first M1A). Today I got some time so I
opened the box, cleaned it, put a mag in and tried to engage the safety... no go. It goes inside the trigger guard, then it pops right back. Is this a known issue?
If so, can I fix it myself?

thanks for your opinions!

The action must be cocked to engage the safety , if it is still really stiff take the action out and put it in a vice with the trigger guard unlatched and out of the way.Put a screwdriver through the safety hole and work it back and forth . Keep doing this and it will loosen up.

I agree, also: a bit of lube helps where it catches the edge of the trigger group housing.

I have three of the Norc/DA clones. On the Norc Shorty and DA Full Length the safety fully engages. On my DA Socom the safety partially engages. A solid squeeze on the trigger disengages the safety and a second squeeze will drop the hammer. As a general rule I don't have much use for safeties, so I haven't had the trigger group apart to see what the problem is in detail. Other than the partial safety nothing else is really wrong with the rifle. I've tried swapping Trigger groups between rifles and they don't seem to be interchangeable.

It's not stiff, rather loose...as I said I can push it easily inside the trigger guard and then it pops out when I release it. The action was cocked when I tried.

Yup, grease that safety arch underneath (hammer forward) the hammer hooks. You will see how it hooks that left side of the hammer. Grease it at the engaging surfaces. Then #### the hammer, work that safety back and forth. You will be good to go.

Cheers,
barney
