The engineers in the USA who make our barrels are suggesting we move from a 1:15 to a 1:8 twist rate for our .50 BMG barrels.

We wanted to get some customer feedback. What do you think?

for all lengths offered?

basically any bolt 50BMG I have ever come across had a 1:15

Lilja, Kreiger, Pac-nor, Lothar-Walther, Bartlein use 1:15, have seen the X-caliber barrels with a 1:20 twist but that was in a short 18" barrel

How many grooves?
Has anybody ever come across 1:8 50 BMG?

Why a 1:8? All the BIG NAME, REPUTABLE manufacturers that have been supplying 3,4 5 grove and poly rifling style barrels for the .50BMG have always recommended the 1:15.

Keep the 1:15.. no need to re-invent the wheel unless your supplier can provide info as to why this next to un-heard of twist rate in a .50bmg suddenly is better than the guys who have been building quality barrels and winning all the matches.

Full uppers or just barrels...? I missed out on the uppers...

I'd say 1:15 works, so why mess with it?

Sounds like your supplier found a way to save money if they can increase the twist rate.

However, I like the number 15 and the number 8 but I just spun The Decision Paperclip and it landed in the direction I decided meant "8" so I vote for 8.

I can't for the life of me understand why a 1-8" twist would be desirable or even remotely needed. The fastest BMG barrel I was aware of is PAC-NOR's 1-10" 8 groove (special order only) and even they recommend the 1-15" as the best general choice for virtually all uses. I think whoever is recommending this change has spent too much time behind an un-braked BMG and has suffered the effects of a bit too much free recoil :)

Did you ask the Engineers the reason why they recommend the faster twist? There has to be a reason and it's either a cheaper way to make barrels (increased profits for them) or it shoots better somehow in their opinion.

I'm curious as to their reasoning.

A third possible reason is that they hope to sell more barrels. A 1-8" twist will exhibit deleterious throat erosion before a 1-15" twist will -- although whether that's caused by the twist rate or by the longer and heavier bullets typically shot in faster twist barrels is possibly a point of discussion. Regardless though, I'm really not sure how many guys actually wear out their .50 BMG barrels... :)
