The words of my 12-year old after he watched his groups from the old Cooey Repeater double in size when he switched to Remington Thunderbolts, then shrink back down to normal when he switched back to the usual Remington Golden Bullets. Clearly that gun prefers one type of bulk ammo over the other.

Bought a case of these 20+years ago...still have some. Lots of other stuff shot, thunderbolt is just reallllly badddd 22 ammo. I shoot it like a six year old eats liver.....push it around their plate....wash it down with half a glass of milk.....try and put it in their pocket and get excused.

used to be Winchester dynapoint- now it's 555s if and when you can get them - we tend to descend on our local walmart like a herd of locusts

I like winchester wildcat the best but im down to my 2nd last brick of thunderbolts. I really dont get what the complaints are about. I have 2 10/22s which i clean after every outing and i get very reasonable groups with them. Sure they are dirty but they work for me. Ive gone through over 3000 of them with only a half dozen ftf and a few stove pipes. The two types of ammo i truly hate are federal bulk and dynapoints.
Perhaps i do so well as i bring a brass brush to the range and run every couple hundred rounds. IMO keep those bores clean and your fine.

My mother used to tell my brother that the liver she's serving was steak. So her solution would be to give the kid thunderbolts and tell him they're golden bullets.

Different gun, different rifling. You are using a 10/22. The original poster was talking Cooeys. Apparently the Cooeys were set up for the typical rounds of those days, ww2 era and postwar. Apparently they were subsonic or only slightly supersonic. Mild velocities, and the rifling style and twist were optimized for that. They were not meant for 1450fps velocities... and such a combo does not perform very well. Your 10/22 is likely much newer, and has rifling more suited to higher velocity ammo, so your results are probably more acceptable.

Thunderbolts gave me my best group ever with a High Standard Super Citation, and they were the only ammo that worked reliably in my Mosquito(excluding duds, of coarse).

I've used thunderbolts once. ONCE, never again. I've never seen my action cake up with crud so dam fast. I swear, they probably add charcol to the powder mix just to make it more dirtier. Horrible ammo.
