I just ordered an 853C for my kids for Christmas and was wondering if there are any accessories I should be picking up too? I am thinking of things like cleaning rods, any other maintenance tools/chemicals and so on. Anything special to look for in pellets? Are there any websites with info on the care and feeding of a quality target air rifle?

Thanks,
Mark

A few things I couldn't live without

- Gehmann pellet box

Give a call to either Jocelyn @ Cible Target Canada www targets ca/
Or Harvey @ Airguns Plus www airgunsplus ca/

As for pellets... the only thing I've ever used are H&N/RWS/JSB. To get the kid started, I'd go for the H&N Economic 4.50. Harvey has them for $33.75 for 2500... That ought to keep him/her busy for a while.

Except for the initial cleaning of the bore when you get the gun, there should be very little reason or need to clean it for a long time. The 853 is a sub-500 fps air rifle and as such it will rarely require bore cleaning. Those who shoot match 10M air rifles usually clean it after 1000's of shots, when accuracy begins to diminish. When you do clean the bore use a pull through cleaner like a patch worm (weed whacker line). If you use a rod, make sure it is a coated rod for protection as air gun bores are made of relatively soft metal.

There's really not much to go wrong with this rifle. You should get this manual with your gun: https://www.daisy.com/sites/default/files/manuals/853_series_english.pdf
