Where is the best place to sell a Daisy 853c air rifle? I bought it new 4 years ago for my son, he was in Cadets at the time. He used the rifle to train at home.

He has now moved on to the reserves and is now shooting competitive 10m rifle shooting with a Feinwerkbau. The Daisy served him well!

Cheers

You could always donate it to the Cadets. Especially the ones in the smaller towns are hard up for new or just good condition guns.
What is one worth? I could ask my local 3133 squad & see if they are interested.

Problem is, cadets are only allowed to shoot the rifles that have been issued to their unit. The regs are very clear on that. We are inspected by the PTB every year, so if they find an extra one, they get a little excited.

However, if the local unit has a deserving cadet that can make it past the local level in competition, it might be lent to them by the Sponsor to use it at home to practice with.

As long as it is owned by the Sponsor you should be OK.

I am also a CIC Officer. The little Daisey's are amazingly accurate in the right Cadet hands. You are correct DND would have a major concern with Cadets using a "not issued" air rifle. Don't do it. I would not suggest a support committee take it on either.

Like you other parents are quite often looking for the 853 Air Rifle for their son or daughter to practice with outside of Cadet Times (an excellant idea). The exchange forum here would be a good place to advertise. Not sure of the price of these new now but could be getting close to $300.00

Do cadets still get to use Enfields in 22lr and 303? I remember shooting the Ancshutz, FAL, Enfields, and daisy air rifles.

Air Rifle marksmanship is common to all three elements (Air, Navy and Army) Marksmanship is taught at LHQ level and is mandatory training. Teams are selected and compete at Zone and Provincial levels. Provincial winners go onto a National Competition.

Local units have the opportunity to compete in Winter Biathalon if they have access to suitable facilities. This is fired with an Anchutz 22 LR Target rifle. Would have to reference the model number

Army Cadets have the opportunity to attend formal summer camp shooting training at Connaught Ranges. This is a 4 year progressive process with the 5th year being the selelection of the Army Cadet National team which competes at Bisley England. Rifles used include the C11 and C12.

In addition Senior Army Cadets attending summer training fire the C7 as a familiarization shoot at some Summer Cadet Training Centers.

Yeah I did all that, could have probably gone to Bisley as well had I shown some initiative but didn't. Truth be told I knew I was being sent to the lions, because there would be no chance of winning the Queen's plate, and I figured someone else could go lose instead.

We did however have our own indoor 60feet range, complete with zealous CO who thought all 12 year old kids should know how to do rifle drill and score 80%+ by the time they were teenagers.

He did a good job haha, I remember most kids were scoring mid 70's on average after the CO would relentlessly drill us on shooting techniques. Can't remember another time in my life when I would get yelled at for not breathing properly trololol

i almost bought one for my son when he was in the cadet.

sell it on EE cheap , you know who ever buys it will be practicing with it just like your son did . $250-300 sounds reasonable.

These guys sell them:

Depending on condition of course, a reasonable guess for used resale value would be about $200.00 - $250.00.
I bought my Army Cadet grandson the Daisy 953 which has the same powerplant, but not the fancy German barrel. Put on a $50.00 set of sights to match the 853C for a total cost of less than $200.00.
The usual disclaimer applies - just a satisfied customer. Cheers! Hamish
