Anyone on board who knows something about old Daisy air rifles? I'm trying to obtain this old No. 40 pictured below and would like to know what kind of rarity we're talking about.

I've never even SEEN one before! Anybody got an idea of its value - roughly of course? I only know that it is in working condition. It's at an out-of-state auction.

Thanks for any info.

Maybe a post on the American Vintage Airguns forum. There was a post there the other day about a Daisy collectors gathering that just took place.

Should be someone there that can give you a better idea, anyway.

Neat "military trainer". Adult size, or kids?

Cheers

You can also try to post you question on the Canadian Airgun Forum.

There are a bunch of guys there with insane knowledge of everything airguns. They have help me out countless times with my questions.

Many thanks to all for your responses. First off, trevj I don't think there was but ONE size. Just found a TON of info on this gun but haven't had a chance to read all of it yet. The guy wrote an extensive, fully illustrated article and then after that were 66 replies from other guys!!!

That lead came from a simple web search for "BB Guns," and "Daisy Military Model No. 40." I shoulda' done a search to begin with rather than bother you guys.

You're a great bunch and I appreciate the help.

trevj it's a LONG story. Basically there were a lot of them made, there are two different Variations (not much difference), and the bayonet is worth MORE than the rifle - cause so many of them were lost or tossed.

Lots of them were made, in fact there's another one offered on one of our online auctions down here right now. It has a sling but no bayo. Ad says it's in working order.

That was pretty much it. I thought it might be much more rare as I've never even HEARD of one since I first got interested in guns more than 50 years ago!

Blue Book has them valued at 300$ for poor up to $950..........the Bayonet adds $300 to the value of the gun. That one is missing the sling which they claim is $100
Variant 1 is made between 1916-18 and variant 2 was made between 1919-32

Believe it or don't, guys, I found THREE of them for sale at three different auctions. That's when I began to really lose interest. I'm not an airgun collector so just sat back and watched. The one with bayonet sold for $290. There's one at an online right now with a high unknown reserve on it. And another auction has a really sharp looking one, which closes in two days, high bid on it right now is $140.

They're comin' out of the woodwork!

Sounds like the average price may be going down...

Thanks for your help folks.
