Man am I pissed off, you spend all Summer getting things ready, and opening day, it's like a drive through war zone!!! Me and my buddie, spent most of our hunting time, dealing with night lighters, people sneaking into our land, hunting right behind us!!!! Drunks in trucks, who can't read the signs!!. Old men, who drive our private road with a gun out the window!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to get one of those semi muzzel loaders that the locals are using!!! They come with some new option of night vision:runaway: .
So, it's five plate numbers and a couple of pictures, and now going to give it all to the conservation office in Steinbeck.
Hell, at this point I think I will ask them to come out and set up their sting decoy on our place and use our yard as base

Uh, if it's a private road try blocking it.(3/8" cable works great, and in the dark it's hard to see)
Not that it should ever be necessary, but a guys gotta do what he's gotta do.
Keep us informed as to how it falls out with the fish cops I love a great story.

That is how the rifle season works around here. Muzzleloading season is much better, as there is not as many hunters, because lazy hunters don't like to take the time to clean a front stuffer. Last year rifle season was so frustrating that I have given it up. So far I have only seen 2 other hunters and heard only a few far off shots in the past 3 days. Good luck with the slob hunters.

"Road hunters" I guess if your definition of "Road hunters" is people breaking the law with their hunting activities then I would agree it is a problem we as hunters can do our part to help the enforcement people with.

However there is another definition of "road hunters" and that is people who do not break any laws while making use of vehicles and roads or drivable trails while hunting. Just because you see a guy driving slowly along in his truck looking out the windows does not mean he is a law breaker.

Hope you are successful in getting the law breakes you described prosecuted

Good Post, Robin. This hate #### between shooters and hunters has to end.

enjoyed Smokepole hunting for the 15 years I have done it. No one else around. Rifle season is a different story. Sorry guys but I just have to bi+++ on the Winnipeg folks for the overpopulation of hunters during the rifle season in the area I hunt. It gets bad when the local farmers cannot even get on there own land without there being some stranger on it. They come out for a day or two, raise hell, never drop a dollar in town and leave until next year. I would really like to know how often outside of hunting season that they actually pull there guns out. Why? Because a few local business people said come on down there are tons of deer in our area. I have been fortunate enough to hunt with these farmers. I get asked over and over again by buddies wanting in. I have to let it slide in one ear and out the next. Why? cause I am not the landowner just a guest. I do not plan and messing up what I have going.

That's my rant and I am sticking to it.

Here it's the law, no shooting out of a truck, no driving looking for game, no shooting off the road for game. Think about it, they shoot the shot goes through the tress, and into our yard site, which you can not see from the road.
Be legal, know your target and behind it as well

Here are the road regs

www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/wildlife/hunting/biggame/vehicles.html

Roads, Trails and Waterways Zone

In the Roads, Trails and Waterways Zone, all vehicles operated by deer, elk or moose hunters are restricted to roads, established trails and waterways.

For example, an ORV may be used to access a hunting area along an established trail that winds through the forest or grassland, but hunters may not establish their own trails or venture off existing trails. In agricultural areas, hunters with landowner permission may use a vehicle to cross a cultivated field by the most direct route to access the continuation of the established trail or the hunting area.

In an area where bluffs of trees are interspersed with cultivated land, a hunter may use a vehicle to travel from bluff to bluff by the most direct route. However, if hunting activities cause a big game animal to travel to another bluff, a vehicle may not be used to follow, chase after, or pursue that big game animal. It is illegal to hunt, including searching for and following game, from a vehicle.

Deer, elk and moose hunters are restricted to roads, trails and waterways from August 21 to December 22

In GHAs 13A and 18A, deer, elk and moose hunters are restricted to roads, trails and waterways from August 21 to January 20
In GHAs 23 and 23A, deer, elk and moose hunters are restricted to roads, trails and waterways from August 21 to January 27.

That is bad advice as it is illegal and would set you up for a civil lawsuit as well.
as far as legalities are concerned you can block off your own private road but if a vehicle or person is injured because of it you will probebly get sued
your best bet would be to huck down a couple decent 2"dia. trees and make a make shift gate and put a couple of strips of Flagging tape on it with a big sign that says private road/property tresspassers will be.......*insert phrase here*

Thanks Scott_R. The Ontario regs state that you can't use a vehicle to pusue or harass game (or something to that effect). There is nothing about using a vehicle to search for game, that's why I asked.

You can look around all you want , get out and shoot may be different. As for the cable thing , not good . If you got a real problem with a back and forth drive by, and your sitting in a blind, and they know your there, thats un sportsman like, and I would sit on the side of the road and wait for them to go by again. Any decent person will get the hint.
On the up side, the driving by will not stop game from crossing. I was on a double wide power line , could see for a mile, and had deer come right out after a truck went by. :)

All you need to get out of the legalities issue is to post the entrance on said private road with a private drive sign and a use at your own risk sign, go 20feet in and put up your gate

As it is private property you can put up any type of gate you want. If a person drives through it they are damaging private property. I would post a sgin and some ribbon on it myself. One saying possibly " Anyone found on this road at night WILL be found on this road in the morning!!":dancingbanana: :runaway:

That's the problem

with the laws in the country. The perpetrator usually ends up getting the better deal. If I had my way, 2x6 with a bed of nails buried in the road or a set of diamond harrows. It's my property stay out. Signs mean squat to people. I know, I see it daily. No Tresspassing, they just get a slap on the wrist. It is to much hassle to push it farther. I would like to see there a++++ kicked. It is amazing how many people do not take a minute to stop, read and think. The bottom line is hunting usually brings out the A++++++ who think the laws do not apply to them. Oh, Fred just put the sign up because there is a big one hanging around he just wants to save that land for himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People need to give there heads a shake.

The lane to my parents yard is 1/2 mile of road allowance. The road stops at there yard. There is no place to turn around except in the yard. At the start of the road it has a sign stating dead end. It is amazing how many people still come down the road to check it out. I would like to see a sign saying private driveway but that is not in the cards as it is road allowance.

Sad but true. I've thought for some time that more people are turned against hunting by slob hunters than anything done by PETA, WWF or various other anti-hunting groups.
