Damage barrel

I have a Tika 270 with a blued barrel. The barrel has several nicks in the blueing that rust even before i get home from hunting on a wet day. I want to take it into a smith and have it reblued. Does this restore the barrel to new condition? What is the best type of bluing to ask for as i have heard there are several types.

A hot blueing process is what you want. It can be restored to almost new condition depending on the skill of the smith and how bad the damage is. Rust causes metal to be missing and more metal needs to be removed in preparing the surface before blueing. How well this is done is what make a reblueing job look good.

another option to blueing is a finish called KG GUNKOTE. It is a spray on bake on finish that will offer tonnes more protection to your firearm than blueing. It comes in a variety of colours including gun metal blue.

If it's really just a couple nicks, and not generally rusted or worn surface in obvious need of a full refinish, I'd be hesitant about going to the trouble and expense of proper clean-up, polish, and hot blue. How about just a good cleaning, and a cold blue touch-up on the nicked spots? There are lots of cold blue products that will blend nicely, though my favorite is Brownells Oxpho Blue...available from Wholesale Sports. After that just wipe it with a lightly oiled cloth before and after each outing.
