Good day CGN,

I purchased a brand new Colt 1911 Government model O1911C from a retailer on this site brand new back in March of 2022. Upon receiving it after the transfer went through, I disassembled it and the interior of the slide looked like this: https://imgur.com/a/Ji6kO3T

For reference this is what the interior should look like: https://imgur.com/a/aJMB84S

I contacted the retailer and they passed my off to the "fine folks" at Colts major distributer here in Canada. I obtained a return number and sent it in for warranty.

approx 2 -3 weeks later I emailed for an update and got back that the gunsmith had looked at it and that a replacement slide had been ordered and that it would be installed as soon as it came in. 5 days later I get a UPS pickup notice on my door for it. I was thinking "great the gun got fixed really fast. I go to pick it up and the dissemble it and the slide is the exact same one as I had sent out.

An email get sent to the distributer demanding an explanation, the response being along with the paper work that Colt had said "these marks are normal and not a manufacturing defect, no crack noted"

I called the distributer today and spoke to the warranty coordinator explaining that I'd have to contact Colt USA on my own and that there was nothing they could do. I ended up speaking with the warranty gunsmith on the phone who stated that they couldn't do anything about it. Nice.

I contacted Colt USA directly (as the yet to be named distributer passed the buck onto them) and they got back to me within half an hour saying that the slide was indeed defective and that they have no problem replacing the slide. Problem being it will have to go to colt USA's warranty center. So again not sure why the distributer gave me a no answer but, clearly Colt USA wants to make this right.

Update: The distributer got in contact with Colt USA (again) after I put them in contact with the helpful Colt customer service agent I had been dealing with. They will be sending the slide up into Canada and to the distributer for "fitting". Again this was only after I had to prod the distributer and put them into contact with Colt customer service. It was almost like they looked at the original request and didn't want to be bothered to assist in the warranty claim, I also questioned who they had dealt with at Colt USA originally that said it wasn't a manufacturing issue.

So CGN,

I will let you decide what your opinion is on the the internal slide of this Colt 1911.

For sure, it doesn’t look right. Looks like those scratches got there after the slide was blued (finished) I would be really pissed about it, anyone would. Colt should’ve replaced that slide, no questions asked

Having had like a dozen 1911s.. Yeah that ain't right. Unfortunately with businesses now, no matter what. They just send you to the warranty center.

I had a similar situation with a Ruger Mk IV when they first came out. The Canadian retailer and the idiots in Quebec who were the warranty service provider were both constantly (demonstrably) lying and trying to point a finger while Ruger USA was happy to help and were actually quite sick of their Canadian counterparts. We put up with far too much bs from "customer service" here. I would suggest getting a contact on the US side and forwarding your communications from the unhelpful Canadian side to them and let it trickle down, they should be able to send a slide to Canada with the next part shipment.

Make sure you "name, names" once Colt admitted the fault the Cdn didtributor should have picked up the ball & sorted it out. They don't deserve "anonymity" why support Cdn dealers if this is how they treat there customers?

Yeah that sucks.

One of the reasons I purchase firearms in person. The last shotgun I purchased in person, I read online about the shotgun coming with 2 IC chokes in the box. Was at the retailer and they had 3 shotguns in stock, first 2 boxes had 2 IC chokes inside, 3rd was correct.

Oh I will be, at this point I'm still trying to get this resolved and hoping the review can go from negative to positive, but so far the distributer has been dropping the ball. At least he Colt USA customer service is willing to help me.

I had a similar circle jerk with a Win 70 in .338 that had the rifling cut by a chimp with a hatchet at the factory.Sent the gun to Quebec and off the the US 8 months latter the accuracy meets our standards. Wouldn't say what that was. I lucked into a mint takeoff barrel at a shop and had them replace the barrel.

I wish more people would post these stories & let us know who these companies are? & how they respond? I'm guessing this happens more often than not. I only have a small select group of dealers that I trust or purchase from.

There is a reason why Ruger dropped Snap Shots as their Canadian warranty center.

I bought a 20GA H&R from SFRC and had a bent barrel, Ryan told me to go thru the warranty. H&R ( Gravel ) wasn't that bad to deal with.
