I just took apart my 1911 for a cleaning after a range session and noticed this. Pretty sure it wasn't there before.
It only has maybe 250 rounds through it. Any idea what the hell this is or what happened?

The SR frame is casted, it look like a cosmetic flaw in the casting but i doubt it will affect the fonction. It was there from the beginning for sure, you just never notice it until today. Don't worry about it.

I certainly can't think of what could've caused this kind of damage during use. But if it was mine, I'd most definitely get Ruger to look at it.

Thanks, the gun has been working great, I hope it's due to never having noticed it!

I purchased the gun less than a year ago from Wanstalls. Should I connect with them or go right to Ruger?

Ruger actually doesn't offer any kind of warranty at all. They do provide excellent customer service for the most part when something breaks. That said, this looks to just be cosmetic, so I'm not sure there is much recourse for you.

Just a casting mark - no issue, gun will still shoot just fine and it won't affect the life of the frame - the trick is to try and wear the pistol out, so get yourself a few hundred thousand rounds, an extra barrel, and a bunch of springs and have at 'er.

As mentioned by others it looks like a casting flaw.

The guide rod base sits just in front. I'm hummin and hawwin as to whether there would be enough shock transferred to cause the flaw the crack through. Ruger will give you a definitive answer.

The only pita there is that it can take months for the frame to leave and get back for warranty service.

Check and see if your dealer might help you out with it.

If Ruger asks for it back send it in a regular box with no mag ( maybe no grips to ). When the factory fixes it or replaces the frame you should get a new factory case, mag, and grips. It doesn't make up for the months of enjoyment you'll loose but it's better than nothing.

It looks like a casting flaw to me as well, if it is I wouldn't worry about it....if I remember correctly Ruger was under huge pressure to get the SR1911 into the market and the QC guy probably saw that flaw and thought " it is not going to affect performance...next".

Want to see the inside of the dustcover on my NP29 smartguy? Looks like it was hogged out with a chainsaw...a blind fetal alcohol syndrome monkey could have done a better job finishing it.

'Cause it's forged, not cast. Harder and better steel.
