Damn Americans

things are different this time, many Americans, who never used to own a gun are now getting into the market. there was a fine balance of supply and demand, with the new buyers demand has jumped significantly and its going to take time for the supply to catch up. Ad to that the U.S. feds buying billions of rounds and the supply is even shorter. then the hoarders start hoarding and things get tight If just the normal buying were to buy 20% more than they normally do, supplier would get behind. They really are years behind with all that is going on. Buy what you can, when you can and where you can, buy it when you see it. I shoot 20,000 rounds a year, looks like this year it will be pellets only.

So, I just got back from an exercise in Tampa. While there, I took the opportunity to attend a gun show. Prices were high. A '54 Tula SKS in its original cardboard box...$700!! No word of a lie. Almost a dollar a round for non corrosive x39mm ammo and $0.81 a round for .223!!
Many small vendor tables were quite well stocked, but several larger vendor tables were sparse in order to fill all of their space. One vendor reserved most of a centre row but at least 5 (about half) of their tables had signs telling customers that they were sorry, but they simply had no stock due to the current shortages.
Time after time, vendor after vendor, requests for specific items were met with, "Sorry, none available."

I take this opportunity to not make light of the situation but to encourage everyone that this will pass but how long it takes is anyones guess. All the mfg. of guns, ammo reloading supplies and components are overwhelmed, most have added extra hours and shifts to the production line but still can't keep up with demand. It's also an opportunity to learn from this as it is apparent some did from the more recent buying frenzy/price gouging episode in 2008 and the one before that, but many did not plus throw in all the new gun owners and reloaders who are just getting into the sport and haven't been through this before and you see what we get.

I would like to encourage everyone to just clam down and let things play themselves out and take this opportunity to think and plan ahead for such occasions. As a hunter, shooter, reloader and bullet caster I did just that way back when,I've sat out ever single panic buying frenzy and shot what I wanted when I wanted. Lots of people take many things for granted as if it will always be there when you want it at the price you want it and it's just simply not going to be the case. Just imagine for a moment if this were food and water for yourself and your family or energy to run your vehicle or heat your home or any other basic necessities you or your family use daily.

With the economical and political winds as they are and I'm sure it will eventually get much worse you need to take all these matters into your own hands. As stated buy what you can when you can and put some back for a rainy day stash.
