Hello and good day!

First off...for those who think (like myself before this) all 1911's are the same...check this out!

Being my first high end 1911, this semi-custom is incredible.

I've had my fair share of Para's, SAM's, STI's (entry models), Springfield's, Colt's.

All excellent firearms. But I wanted to experience 1911 refinement to another level.

Here I enter the world of Dan Wesson. Although not true custom...it's the closest I'll get without having to cash out my RRSP's.

With a quick field strip, I was curious to see how tight the entire pistol was. It was very impressive. The tightest fit of all my 1911's.

All the parts were finely finished and the innards of the frame and slide showed no sign of tooling marks.

At the range, the results were as expected for such a well built firearm.

The action was smooth and consistent. The trigger was crisp and light. And I love the precision of the sight picture.

Off hand shooting neared bench results...sweet is all I can say.

That's beautiful....congratulations! Wanstalls?

I don't have a 1911 in 9mm but one is definitely on the list. My only hesitation in buying a higher end 1911 is the idiot scratch thing. I put one on my STI Trojan the first or second time I had it apart and have added to it since. :(

I firmly believe 1911's aren't meant to be field stripped by clumsy left handed people with poor manual dexterity!

Very nice gun. Are they made in the USA, or are they (partially) outsourced like Springfields and some STIs?

Guitar pic under the slide stop when you put it back in. Or a plastic card of some sort found most commonly in wallets.

Tried that but found I needed one hand to hold the slide back, another to snap the slide stop in and a third to hold the plastic in place. Plastic slipped out, slide stop scratched frame and then I gave up worrying about it.

Use a plastic or rubber mallet to tap the stop straight down into the takedown notch instead of rotating it up and in by hand. It doesn't take much force and will prevent frame scratching.

Slide stops can also be notched to be easily pushed in.

I'm also rather taken by this other Dan Wesson.

Anyone have any experience with the Valor?

I'd be interested in the "duty black" which all reviews lead it to be better than Glock's tenifer finish.

The Valor seems to get excellent reviews. I wish I had bought one before the dollar tanked! I like the new Bruin as well.
