If you are a 1911 guy, and can appreciate the overall build quality of the Dan Wesson guns, then you will definitely not be disappointed in that gun. I've owned a 2010 Valor and a 2008 CBOB and I can tell you that Dan Wesson 1911s are head and shoulders above any "production" 1911...
A DW is closer in quality to the high end semi-custom guns like Ed Brown, Wilson, Nighthawk, etc, than they are to mass produced guns like Kimber, Colt, Sig, etc.
They are made in very limited production in a small shop - by hand. They have always been a great value and could easily sell for more than they do. At that price, it is a steal. If I had the extra disposable income, I would jump on it myself. My DW stainless Valor is the one gun that I truly regret selling.
I say buy it and don't look back.
Well im not really a 1911 guy, i have owned a 1911. It was a Springfield Armoury 1911 Loaded, stainless. I thought that was a nice gun. I ended up selling it to get something else. I tend to be more of a Glock guy for the most part, but I did own a USP45 and it was awesome. Not sure what im gonna do, was just trying to get some info.
I talked to the guy selling the Valor, he is not the orginal owner, but between him and the previous owner he figures 400 rounds down the pipe. No mods done to it, its all stock.
I recently bought a dan wesson vbob. I have owned the following 1911s all in .45: smith and wesson, kimber, springfields, STI, GSG (.22 1911), Norinco.
The Norinco I did a lot of custom work to, changed all the internals, had trigger work done and actually turned it into the best of the lot I listed, I even had a bobtail cut into it. The Dan Wesson vbob taught me however what the Norc will never be able to be (and I would be my norc up against anyone elses 1500.00 gun any day of the week).
The attention to detail is phenominal. One thing I will mention is that the vbob is designed to be the perfect carry gun, not the perfect target shooter. This means that you can actually remove the barrel bushing without tools, the "match" barrel has some tolerances so that it loads pretty much anything. The sites are designed for quick acquisition and to be able to rack the slide one handed off your belt or a table. It is a very purpose built 1911. Here is some honesty but blasphemy: The trigger is amazing, but truthfully, not more amazing then my norc after I had the work done. The thumb safety has a great and very comfortable design with a perfect "click" as it locks up or down. The checkering is beautiful and the workmanship of the whole gun is remarkable for the price. When you look at the gun from the back you can see how perfectly it was fitted.
Is Dan Wesson worth it? I think at it's current price and given the other guns in that range it is a steal.
Well i think im gonna pass on it, i want my money to go a bit further as im not rich lol.
Try a Sig 1911. I love mine.
I will never ever not have my DW Pointman 7.
