Was thinkin on getting back into a .45. It was either gonna be a USP with 5 mags for around 1400. I just noticed a nice lookin valor for sale on the EE for 1650 or so and I'm tempted lol.

Never owned a Sig or Dan Wesson 1911. But I love the look of both. If it was my cash, I think I would lean towards the Sig for some reason. They have the classic look of the 1911, with Sig Awesomeness all over it.

Both would be a great gun. Keep us posted

If you are a 1911 guy, and can appreciate the overall build quality of the Dan Wesson guns, then you will definitely not be disappointed in that gun. I've owned a 2010 Valor and a 2008 CBOB and I can tell you that Dan Wesson 1911s are head and shoulders above any "production" 1911...

A DW is closer in quality to the high end semi-custom guns like Ed Brown, Wilson, Nighthawk, etc, than they are to mass produced guns like Kimber, Colt, Sig, etc.

They are made in very limited production in a small shop - by hand. They have always been a great value and could easily sell for more than they do. At that price, it is a steal. If I had the extra disposable income, I would jump on it myself. My DW stainless Valor is the one gun that I truly regret selling.

I say buy it and don't look back.

Well im not really a 1911 guy, i have owned a 1911. It was a Springfield Armoury 1911 Loaded, stainless. I thought that was a nice gun. I ended up selling it to get something else. I tend to be more of a Glock guy for the most part, but I did own a USP45 and it was awesome. Not sure what im gonna do, was just trying to get some info.

I talked to the guy selling the Valor, he is not the orginal owner, but between him and the previous owner he figures 400 rounds down the pipe. No mods done to it, its all stock.

Go for it. Top end 1911's whether custom or semi-custom are wonderful to own and shoot. Yes, they are expensive but once you fondle and strip that pistol down you'll begin to appreciate the workmanship and how well everything is put together vs. a mass produced 1911. It's a piece that you'll be proud to own and keep for many years.

Same here, Glock just feels right in my hand, too bad it's ugly. Luv the Look and feel of my Scorpion 1911, just can't shoot it like the Glock.

Fondle the Sig, put it down to shoot the Glock.

400 rnds, Valor isn't even broken in yet.

I recently bought a dan wesson vbob. I have owned the following 1911s all in .45: smith and wesson, kimber, springfields, STI, GSG (.22 1911), Norinco.

The Norinco I did a lot of custom work to, changed all the internals, had trigger work done and actually turned it into the best of the lot I listed, I even had a bobtail cut into it. The Dan Wesson vbob taught me however what the Norc will never be able to be (and I would be my norc up against anyone elses 1500.00 gun any day of the week).

The attention to detail is phenominal. One thing I will mention is that the vbob is designed to be the perfect carry gun, not the perfect target shooter. This means that you can actually remove the barrel bushing without tools, the "match" barrel has some tolerances so that it loads pretty much anything. The sites are designed for quick acquisition and to be able to rack the slide one handed off your belt or a table. It is a very purpose built 1911. Here is some honesty but blasphemy: The trigger is amazing, but truthfully, not more amazing then my norc after I had the work done. The thumb safety has a great and very comfortable design with a perfect "click" as it locks up or down. The checkering is beautiful and the workmanship of the whole gun is remarkable for the price. When you look at the gun from the back you can see how perfectly it was fitted.

Is Dan Wesson worth it? I think at it's current price and given the other guns in that range it is a steal.

Well i think im gonna pass on it, i want my money to go a bit further as im not rich lol.

Here is how I think money into 1911s works:

for 400 you get a norc
For 500 more you get a gun that is out of the box 60% better (trigger, frame work etc)
For 500 more you get a gun that is 30% better than that
For 600 more you get a gun that is 20% better than that
for 1000.00 more you get a gun that is 10% better than that
and then you start getting into smaller and smaller increments

It is not always true that spending more gets you more and obviously these are genalizations and rough estimates to paint a picture but this is why I think the dan wesson for 1650 is a steal. It is a top quality gun and is a significant improvement over the guns in the price range below. So towards the end of the cost spectrum you are spending a lot more to get a little better, but at this midpoint you are still getting great improvements.

I hope that made sense, it is early lol

If you're looking for a cheaper recomendation though my favorite 1911 out of the box other than my dw was a springfield milspec that I wish I still had. They come in well under 1000 on the ee, sometime as low as 650.

I keep looking at that valor just the same, I think if it was the kind that cgn member harry callahan was selling awhile back I may take the plunge. He was selling a valor with that tuff black finish, looked sweet.

Ive looked at a couple of sigs recently, the stainless 1911 and the stainless POW guns look nice.
yes, they do.
