The Dan Wesson is twice the price but, honestly, twice the gun. DW are at the top of the pile for production 1911s. They are small low production shop with an almost semi-custom shop attention to detail. To do any better than a DW you need to go to the true semi-customs like Les Baer, Nighthawk and Wilson Combat.
Now are you looking at a Guardian in .45 or 9mm? The Guardian has an aluminum frame so you want to take that into consideration when you purchase. There will definitely be a bit more felt recoil with the Guardian than a steel framed commander like the V-Bob.
