Hey Guys.

I picked up my DDM4V3 today and they guy at the shop mentioned to me I should grab a parts kits to have handy incase I need it. Can someone explain what parts kit he was taking about?

I'm guessing there is a maintenance kit for it or something or a spare parts kit you can get but I haven't seen it anywhere.

AR tool/wrench?? Its a wrench with several tools built into it. Can remove the barrel, muzzle flash suppressor and buffer tube etc. Not sure if thats it.

In all likelihood they meant a Lower Parts Kit(LPK), such as this one at Wolverine Supplies, they contain springs and pins and small parts that generally receive wear and tear. This way if you drop the rifle and your bolt stop breaks you can replace it without needing to wait to order in that single piece and potentially spend months(or years for fancy exotic things) and/or hundreds of dollars at a gunsmith.

The AR multitool is also very handy to have if you're ever going to be tinkering with the rifle or get serious about doing your own repairs and replacements. There's also the Leatherman MUT and MUT EOD that come with some tools for AR maintenance.

However, DD LPK are in very high demand along with almost everything else DD, they're sold out everywhere as far as I can see. Only one I've ever physically seen is a North East Arms one, but I think some places have other brands in stock. Each of the brands should work in your V3, I think DPMS are probably the most common that I've seen. Still, if you are going to buy a LPK it's worth asking to see if it has proprietary parts that will only work in that brand rifle.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm guessing he meant the lower parts kit. He was saying that if I got that I'd be good to go for the next 10 years. I'm guessing he mean that I could just replace the little parts as they got worn.

I was just wondering if there was more of a like maintenance kit or just the LPK

If you have a line on a DD LPK I would buy it without question. Rare as hen's teeth right now.

In all likelihood, parts in your upper (gas rings, extractor, bolt) are more likely to fail than parts in the lower. Not that the lower parts can't fail, but they don't wear nearly as fast as the stuff in the upper.

Me, I've got a complete parts set, just in case.

Some companies sell a repair part kit: firing pin, firing pin retaining pin, gas rings, hammer spring, extractor, some include hammer and disconnector .

The lower parts don't break, other than the hammer spring. It took me probably about 30000 cycles ( live and dry)to snap the first hammer spring. The hammer and disconnector are still working.

I got a DD LPK from one shot tactical about 3 weeks ago, $106 I believe. They still have the DPMS one as well for $87.99 I think. The DD LPK is nice, everything went into my NEA lower without any fuss, but I doubt it is significantly superior to the DPMS product. A spare LPK can't be a bad idea to have around, but if your rifle is just for plinking, you would probably enjoy the extra 200 (or more) rounds you can buy for that price more than worrying about a part that will likely not break for years.

I just installed my DD LPK in an NEA lower, but would gladly remove it and send it to you for the right price and purchase the DPMS one for myself.

You can buy one of those repair kits for $30 bucks from brownells..
