Gun nutz,
I have a DD M4 V5 that will not drop free any gen1,2 or 3 pmags.the mags are also difficult to insert and require force to remove. all usgi metal drop just fine. i have 2 other AR's that every single one of the pmags drops free from very smoothly.
the rivets have been lightly sanded and do not drag on the other rifles. any ideas?

So the Pmags dont catch on the other rifles, but you didnt mention if it is catching on the DD. Also check your mag catch if it is inserted too far. That could be the culprit as well.

Yep, seen it. The magpul mags have a slightly wider "spine" than usgi metal mags, and some magwells are a wee bit snug to start with. Take a file and remove a little material from each mag on the sides of the spine. I wiped a little frog lube on them too, and they zip in and out nicely.

On the upside, there will be no play in them.

great i will look into sanding the mags. very strange that this AR will not accept a pmag yet many DD rifles include one in the box....

Make sure the rivets are counter sunk, I bought a few off a site sponsor that marred up the back inner wall of my magwell and others that would go in smooth, but would not drop free. I took a little off the rivet head with a die grinder and they worked like a hot damn after that.

Have you tried the Gen3 30round window pmags? I find it has a smaller size than all other types of pmags. I had the same issue with my T97, tried every pmags out there. Only the gen3 window can free drop.

The issue is not the rifle or the mags, but rather in the rivets used in the pinning, ones with thicker or rounded heads tend to rub or get hung up in the mag well. either grind them down or re-pin with flat head rivets.

I found the exact same thing. The spine on the windowed version is thinner. Odd, seeing as they are the same generation.

I think only the GEN 3 window pmags are thinner at the spine. I've tried GEN2 window both black and FDE on my T97, still too tight to drop free.

same issues I had with my DD... it was the rivet
