Interesting life story of a very brave, Japanese-American soldier.
 
I did not know that.

For a WW2 hero that used guns and granates, while losing an arm and seriously wounded, that eventually earned him the highest orders and respects for Japanese-Americans in the the US, is very a educational and surprising.

He is now, also the longest serving US Senator, and as the saying goes:

"Politics makes strange bedfellows", might apply in this case ?
 
Interesting that the Medal was upgraded and conferred on him 45 years after the event. He is a Democrat and a high profile politico who served Clinton well. Maybe that has nothing to do with it though.

There are many soldiers who deserved high awards for bravery who never got them due to lack of witnesses or a suitable write-up to support the award.
