I don't understand a lick of Danish, but his crucifix is made from empty ctg casings, perhaps .50 cal. Troops have always made things out of various military items and scrap and these things are known as "trench art".
Chaplains are soldiers too and their job is to identify with and support and comfort the troops so that they are able to stay on the firing line and perform their duties. It would not be untoward for a chaplain to use trench art with a religious theme in his ministrations to his "flock".
Gen Geo Patton once ordered his chaplain to compose a prayer to the Lord to stop the rains so that his attacks could continue. When the rains stopped Patton decorated the chaplain for a job well done. Since time immemorial soldiers have always liked to believe that God or Allah is on their side in a just and moral cause. Recall that the Germans marched to war in 1914 with all of the soldaten wearing belt buckles reading "Gott Mit Uns".
I can only imagine that any soldier in combat situations gets, at times, spiritually very close to the maker(s), and making a crucifix from empty 50 caliber casing is very much part of a (Christian) combat soldiers spirituallity, as well as it makes it easier for the chaplain to "connect" with the indivual combat soldiers ?
The religious and spiritual aspect of the Afghan wars is clearly important for all warring parties.
There is nothing really new to translate from the interviews in the video, since they are all very boring, generic and political correct, as can be expected from any official military website
