Hey guys, looking at buying a dar 22 and can't decide on barrel length. I want the 12.5 for easy to carry gopher poper but want 16 for target. So figured why not buy both barrels and swap between them. I'd have short on for summer and then throw long barrel on in winter when I do my target shooting. Just curious how easy is it to swap barrels.

Sweet. Good to hear. I wasn't sure if it was maybe bit more involved than taking out some screws. Never owned a 10/22

Swapping barrels can be painful depending on how tight the fit is, and even if that isn't a problem, you need to completely take apart the rifle to do it, you lose your zero, etc.

I recommend you build a rifle with one barrel. Why not choose one good length? Can you get a 14", or live with hauling around a 16"? At least the 16" will give you more velocity and less drop for gophers.

I recently swapped out my factory 1022 ,for the first time,to a tacsol aluminum barrel . Piece of cake. I did have to sand the tac sol barrel a little bit ,because it was a bit to tight.

You won't want to get a gun up and running smoothly and then pull the barrel and change it out... 10/22's are cheap just build two guns... I have lots of experience with Dlask's 12.5" barrels and they are very accurate... unless you are shooting past 100 yards, just build the 12.5" and see how you like it.

Go with the 12.5 inch Dlask barrel. Don't buy two 10/22s or an extra barrel, spend the money on quality ammo get to know the rifle.
I can often out shoot friends with 16" bull barrels with my 12.5" and even my 8"
Some Dlask barrels fit very tight and it is a lot harder to install and remove them than a factory barrel.
If you really feel the 12.5" barrel is not getting you what you want, do the trigger.
12.5" performance is very good with the Dlask barrels you cant go wrong.

One factor you should consider is noise. The shorter barrel will be louder. I've had dlask 8 & 10's for me too loud for hunting or plinking. What I did was go to a 16" sporter weight with a benz chamber for my carry around hunting & plinking gun. I've got plenty of 20" bull barrels for targets ----- but the 16"factory contour is the one I grab for fun!
ps
don't build just one!

12.5" works great, but will be louder as mentioned. Even 710fps quiets have a bit of a snap to them out of the 12.5" barrel.
16.5" I did not really notice any difference in accuracy, but much quieter - and heavier!
20.5" - well, I've got the fluted barrel, so it does not feel as heavy. And with the low-velocity quiet ammo - you can hear the bolt cycle more than the round going off.

ended up going with a 16.5 at the till... weight wasn't huge issue i have a savage mk2 with a longer barrel and thumbhole stock and i love it but just not a semi auto. figure if i want a more portable .22 for gopher blasting ill hold on for a 10/22 take down or get a base 10/22 and throw shorter barrel on it. none the less thanks for the info guys! now to work some overtime and get a good scope for the beast.
