Ok, this has in all likelyhood been asked before. I'm looking for a decently accurate .22 LR for around the camp -- a little target shooting (nothing serious, again at camp with the grand kid), squirls & rabbits.
CZ or Savage MarkII ? Had a CZ (Lux) in the past -- liked the gun with iron sights but hated the way I had to scope the gun. Mounts had to be so high for the bolt to cleas a 32mm scope that my face was off the stock. Going to see a Savage stainless with accu trigger tomorrow. Are they a goog gun and is the accu trigger just hype?

I have both and am happy with both except for the heavy trigger pulls, the cz american is getting a eric brooks trigger job hopefully this week and the savage with the accutrigger is getting a tuning. I am going to cut one coil off of the main spring to see if I can lighten it up a little more. As for scope rings I have used weaver medium and high rings on both and have not had a problem with bolt clearance, both of these rifles are fairly new and that could be why. The out of the box accuracy of both rifles is impressive as well as both shoot under .75 inch at 50 yards repeatedly. Between the two I would say that it boils down to personal preference and how they fit and feel to you, the savage I believe is about 200 bucks cheaper and you still get the wooden stock model or you can save a bit more and get the tupperware model. If I had to do it again mind you I would have bought more CZ americans at the price of 299.99 when I got mine.

I would go with the CZ. If you do not like the way the scope mounts you might want to try a version that does not have open sights (American, style, silhouette, varmint). I have been extremely impressed with my CZ and would definately reccomend it :)

I wanted to look at Savage Mark II at wholesale and the guy told me not to bother with them unless I dont mind having problems feeding, extracting, ejecting. :(

I dont know what to get now.

I have a Mark II. The accutrigger is great. The gun is good in the accuracy dept, but the heavy barrel version is probably better.

I haven't had ejection problems. If you do, call savage and they'll send you the parts to fix it.

I have had feeding problems. The magazines are designed to feed 38-40 gr bullets. The mags can be modified to shoot other sizes. I just choose to shoot the 38s and 40s and it is fine.

it's the bolt knob, not the sights that get in the way.

CZ's are great rifles, but the bolt lift is just uncomfortable for me, and mounting a scope is a PITA.

I'd go with the Savage. Had one of those too, and they're very accurate. Value for money, they win hands down

Cooey model 600!!
Save the bucks and blow it on ammo. (Or get an autoloader as well for when ya feel like just blasting!! :dancingbanana: )
I consistantly nail pop cans out to 80 yds with the iron sights.
Haven't cleaned this gun in roughly 30 years!

a hundred bucks (or even two) really doesn't last all that long in an autoloader, especially if you have a handful of hi-caps for it :)

Just last Saturday I blasted off two bricks. The two other fellows I was shooting with did about the same (it was a good day) :D

Savage all the way you can't beat them for the price.:dancingbanana:
But when it comes to lever action HenryReapeating are very good and feed them with whatever you have on hands.

May I suggest a Marlin 925R, I got one and love it. you can mount a scope using either weaver bases or a dovetail, I put a Bushnell Banner 4-12X40 on mine and it works just fine. Accurate out to 60 yards, have yet to shoot any further. Only complaint was the trigger seemed heavy at first, but lightened up significantly after the first brick.

There's your problem......never listen to the guy behind the counter, listen to CGN instead!

Now go get that Mark II with accutrigger and have fun! At aprx $250.00cdn, its a lot of gun for the buck!

okay just finished the trigger adjustment on the mark II accutrigger. Out of the box the lightest pull you can achieve is about 3.5 pounds. I just cut one and a half coils off of the spring and got it down to a pound. the beauty of this is I can now adjust it up with the adjustment tool and put it back at four pounds. now you should go and get yourself one of these and i might suggest you talk to the people at P&D, not only sponsors but way more in the know then those summer students at wholesale "we aint got that in stock" sports.

bot of my savage mark IIs have been heavy barrel, they have both proven to be very accurate. I can't say anything about the light barrel as I have never held nor shot one. I wanted the heavy barrel for shooting off of the bench but it is not to bad free hand but you can feel it on the seventh shot. If your using it for plinking I would say the light barrel. If mostly shooting on the bench go for the heavy, just my 2 cents. boils down to personal preferrence. If you are going to train a youngster on it go with the lighter barrel for sure.

Cooey model 600 gets my vote too! I have a cz 452 american, and even though it is a tackdriver with my bushnell trophy scope, the cooey with iron sights takes a lickin and keeps on tickin, plus i dont worry about it as much as my CZ. just get a cheap .22, its not the gun that makes the shot, its the shooter.

Wont be shooting off a bench, just gophers. I think I'll probably go for the lighter barrel since Im going to put a scope on it.
