Gentlemen,
Here are to MAIN files on the production of the M1 Garand per Ordnance.

Neat satistics, they probably set up machines to do one task over and over agian without changing the set up so less skilled people could work, like on a horizontal mill, set the fixture up once and then it can run many many parts before the cutters get dull and all the operator has to do is put in a part, tight the part down, run the machine, unload the part and repeat. :)

Well atleast with that number of fixtures thats probably what they did I think, its the cheapest and quickest way to make a whole lot of parts without CNC machines and without having the need to hire alot of skilled Toolmakers and Machinists to do the work and when your planning on building up a Army's worth of rifles the costs of the fixturing and all the machines is little per rifle produced. :)
