I disassemble the M48 mauser i bought and i cannot find a data stamp on it anywhere. Are there any markings on this thing which denote the calibre?

Anyone know how i can verify that this thing really is a 8x57JS

aren't too many military rifles that have the caliber stamped on it. M48 is definately 8x57JS with .323 bore, no worries.

Ditto to what Hitzy said; since the military issued these rifles, they were expecting them to be used with issued ammunition, and it would've been the QM's job to make sure you got the proper ammo.

They were made after W.W. II. The .318" bore was dropped before W.W. I.
