Just wondering what the tag in the barrel channel of the stock on my Breda Garand means? Its a paper sticker tytpe tag. Says november 1963. I can't find any other dates on the rifle. Any way to date a Breda?

Are you talking about this sticker?

If so, this is a sticker put in my an armourer when the rifle is sighted in. If you do a search for "danish garand Kampviser" you'll probably find some info on how to decode it. I've seen Danish Garand stocks that have multiple stickers, one on top of the other.

The Danish surplus Breda Garanda were made in the 1954-55 timeframe. All Breda barrels I've seen are dated either 1954 or 1955. The Danes are reported to have procured approx 10,000 Bredas and 10,000 Berettas from Italy. I have never seen any data on the s/ns made in 1954 vs 1955. The highest Breda s/n that I am aware of is BMR10187 , owned by me.

Nice! Thanks a bunch for the info. Mine is dead center in the serial range. Is the year stamp usually under the rear handguard? Super new to them, this ones my first.

Mine is a US Springfield made, Danish Lend/Lease, and has the Danish crown barrel.
It too has the sticker.

You should be able to see the barrel markings by pulling the oprod back and looking in the space between the rear handguard and the stock, along the right side.

Usually there'll be a manufacturer's marking (e.g., B.Sid or VAR) along with the date (e.g., 1955).
