dating a rem 700 rifle!

When I was single I preferred to date girls.

There are books on gun values that probably give serial number ranges and the important identifying features.

If you send Remington an email they will reply and tell you the year of manufacture, but they won't reference the exact month, date etc...

I've done it. Fairly standard response time.

there are two small letters on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the recoil lug. These are the date codes telling you when the action was barreled. The serial number may give you a date a bit earlier than this as receivers are serial numbered when they are built and barreled later.

The second letter denotes the year..In 1962 they started with a J...1963 was K..etc...except they skipped I,O,Qand V...then they used these from '76 to '79 and started over at A in 1980.

the first letter denotes the month as below

B Jan
L Feb
A Mar
C Apr
K May
P Jun
O Jul
W Aug
D Sept
E Oct
R Nov
X Dec

example...LV would be Feb '79........BE would be Jan '84
