Dating by serial number

What have you got? Model and serial number, x out the last couple digits...I will look it up for you. This is the best source book for all things S&W.

I always thought that dating was something that started in the bar, the laundromat, at a dance, or through friends. I never asked a girl about her serial number.

I just found this thread. I know its a few years old but if I give you the serial numbers on some S&W revolvers that I just picked up could you shed some light on them for me? I am brand new to the collector scene, what a time to get into handguns!
