First day off work in quite a while. 16 year old daughter has been bugging me to take her out deer hunting. At about 9:30 am she got a nice broadside double lung shot at about 75 yards. Remington 243 with 100 Gr SPBT. Bullet exited out the outer side without a lot of expansion. She was pretty proud as am I. She had to go to work at 11 so we just got it skinned and hung in time.

Congratulations to your daughter!!! Nice looking animal and the smile on her face says it all, you guys make a great hunting team.

No hunter orange?Where's the rifle?Nice deer for sure! Should make a memento out of the first one.My son had a lamp made out of the feet and I paid for it.He was 14 when he took it. He is 28 now and an electrical engineer and the lamp is still on his desk!

2 out of 3 of my daughters have taken deer at about that age. That was enlightening. That girls shoot better than boys...who'd for thunk it?
Good on her.
And Lou...it's AB. Hunter Orange isn't a requirement in AB

Gotcha! If I wasn't on private land I know I would wear at least a orange hat. When I hunted in Michigan (750,000 deer hunters)I wore orange head to toe and had a great time there!

Correct, orange is not a requirement here, plus we were on our own property. She is a pretty good shot and has lots of practice with AR, pistol, etc. She was shooting the RH 700 southpaw style as she is left eye dominate. She made the shot standing unsupported. I was going to get her a LH 243 but I didn't know if she would actually be able to kill a deer. Now that I know she is good with it I know what to get her for a gift... ;)

Congratulations to your daughter on her first deer, WELL DONE!!!

And congrats to you for raising a beautiful young lady that HUNTS!!!

Cheers

Nice pics. Who says all teenagers just sit at home on the computer cell.phone and TV doing nothing.

243 is a very underestimated round.

Thanks. She has had a job for over a year now, as well as maintaining honor roll marks in high school. That same 243 has killed 3 moose over years... It's just so light and easy to pack around with an 18.5" barrel.

I have a 300 win mag bar safari. The gun is a tank very hard to lug around so heavy and akward. Where.I hunt in northern ontario it's all thick bush and it makes for carrying it difficult. When I was a kid it was always my dream gun ( when i finished school and started making good money I bought it right away ) but.I am starting to rethink that a smaller lighter round ( gun ) is the way to go.

She whacked a deer had it gutted and hung before going to work by 1100 hrs.???
WTF, she is going to be one awesome Gal and Congrats on Her success and yours Too.
Not to mention she is a leftie too...3% of the population, man she is Special !
