Some 14 years ago, the DCRA initiated the Service Conditions category of the Shooting Hall of Fame. At that time, a records search determined that six people should be retroactively inducted. Legendary shooters such as Ron Surette, Joseph Daigle, Jacques Dugas, Ken Ferguson, Laval Mercier, and Keith Cunningham were inducted in that first year. Since then very few shooters have made it into this elite group. In 2013, Dave Oakie was inducted.

The DCRA Hall of Fame Committee set the standard for induction extremely high. To be considered, a shooter would require years of participation in provincial, national and international competitions, and display a level of proficiency that would make Wayne Gretzky envious.

The 2014 inductee was Cpl Ryan Steacy, a member of the British Columbia Regiment, 39 Brigade in Vancouver, started shooting Service Rifle in 1994. Both his father and uncle were shooters. His uncle competed at Bisley with the Black Watch in the ‘60s. Ryan is currently the British Columbia Rifle Association Service Rifle record holder and twelve times between 1998 and 2013 has been named BC Service Rifle Champion, setting records in 2011 and again
in 2013. Also proficient in Service Pistol and Tactical Rifle, he was named the BC Service Conditions Champion (Rifle and Pistol combined) in eight of those years and BC Tactical Rifle Champion (precision/sniper) in 2004 (overall), 2005 (team), 2006 (military), 2011 (military and team).

In 2007 Ryan was the recipient of both the Des Burke Award and the Borden Memorial Cup, while in 2009 he was the NSCC CF Champion finishing third overall in the open class. He has been a member of the CF National Team to Bisley on three occasions and in 2010 was the winner of the prestigious Queen Mary Match. He was the winner of the Queen’s Medal in 2007 and 2009 for Champion Shot in the Regular and Reserve Force at Bisley. Three times Ryan has participated in the US Armed Forces Skill at Arms (AFSAM), placing second in 1997 and winning the President’s Trophy in 1999.

To put this lifetime performance into perspective, two of these many accomplishments are of such stature that they would have virtually guaranteed him automatic induction into the Shooting Hall of Fame. Adding to this list, at NSCC this year, Ryan won the King/Dundonald Trophy, the Sherwood Cup, the Borden Memorial Cup, DCRA 550 & 750 Badges, the Helmer Memorial Trophy, the PPCLI Service Rifle Trophy, and the NSCC Grand Aggregate Trophy.

Ryan was chaired into the hall to a standing ovation and following the prize presentations and champagne shower, Mr. Keith Cunningham presented him with his HOF Induction Certificate.

There was also a nice little article about Ryan on the Vortex Canada website, I remember reading it awhile ago. Good shooting!

Dave Oakie and Ron Surette is about time as for the others. :)
My father lives 6 houses down for Joe Daigle's retirement farm in. St Charles, NB, I beleive he passed away a few years back.

Been out of the circles for more years then I would care to admit.
But, it's wonderful news that Keith and Ron get some recognition that they richly deserve too.
I met Ron fall/winter of 1980 in Gagetown. I understand that his son has served overseas in Afghanistan as well.
