After reading a few posts by other people, I gave it a try. The first try was an improvement but not by much. Opened the holes a smidgen more. Next series of tests next weekend

How dare you destroy a piece of history such as the SKS, o ya they made millions, never mind carry on

I am using cast reloads at about 1800fps at the moment and it cycled 100% SKS are notoriously over gassed.
Cool, what do you estimate the cost per round is? What is the accuracy like out to 100 yards? I have seen That Parkerized finish on you sks on a few it is very hard/tough!

No idea what the cost per round is. Have not worked it out. Accuracy so far is about the same as surplus, but then again the accuracy part is probably me ;).

Reason for reloading is that I reload for all my guns plus it's corrosive free.

Next trip an actual gun range I will see how accurate it is.

I've been thinking about doing something like this for a while. Me thinks I might plug the gas port area so that less gas gets to the piston. Not sure if there is an advantage or not, but it would be a more stealthy mod.

aahhh the infamous BBQ paint on the latest import batches sure doesn't beat nice blued steel IMHO
Yep blueing is great if you collect or shoot paper but most rifles/shotguns these days come with a Parkerized coating of some sort, it is tough and more no reflective than blueing, god for hunting and staying hidden! IMHO! Now if you are talking about the odd sks that has had some kind of spray put on it, which is fairly rare,, then I agree ,but I picked through ove 150 sks in the last year and have only seen about a half dozen with a crappy paint type finish, the rest are done nicely with blueing or Parkerizing so I am not sure about the infamous part.
