Not sure where to ask. I have various mags I wanna test in a rifle at home. Where can one buy 762x39 ammo that has been de-primed and powder removed but still retains brass and bullet?

I figured it would be a lot cheaper to get someone to decommission some ammo rather than buying snapcaps

I bought some 7.62x39 "snap caps" off someone on ebay, he made them with real cartridge and projectile so the weight was realistic. Worth the $15 tbh, the raw materials may only be 1/3rd that but time is money.

I could probably make you some, i have all the dies and bullet pullers... i just need a few rounds of 7.62x39 (i actually dont have any in my possession right now other then about 5 tracers (that somehow snuck into my create of chinese surplus ammo)and i aint pulling them apart lol)

just pull the bullet dump the powder chamber the case fire the primer and reinstall the bullet to the same depth it should still fit in the case tightly

Here is a big safety question...

At a quick glance, how are you planning to identify the difference between live ammo and your deprimed ammo. Obvioiusly, painting does not work because it will slough off inside the firearm.

Some old military dummy training rounds had holes drilled through them. It is probably still a good idea.

I've since dumped them in favor of commercial snap caps, but my old trick was to mix some blue food dye with silicone sealer to replace the removed primer. Served to preserve the firing pin (not really a big issue) and provide a reasonably hearty visual aide. Can't remember where I picked that up, probably from someone in here, but it was fairly effective.

I test mags with live ammo. Just point the gun in a safe direction (in the basement).

But, the other way to do it with some guns is to just remove the firing pin (easy in a SKS).

Any one who reloads can turn some life ammo into dummy rounds for you.
